GOSPEL REFLECTION READINGS FOR THE WEEK OF JUNE 21

“Do not be afraid: you are worth more than many sparrows!” Today’s readings remind us of the gift of salvation which we have received through Jesus death and resurrection. Jesus said to the twelve, ‘do not be afraid’. Today these words are meant for us. Sometimes it may be difficult for us to realize that we are loved and cared for by God. Jesus reminds us that if we profess our faith, he will acknowledge us before His Father. How do we profess our faith each day? We do this by prayer, sacrifice, and living the Gospel. How and when we pray is different for each of us: attendance at Mass, or watching the Mass, saying prayers before and after meals, and prayer during the day. Sacrifice can be done by giving to the poor, by sharing what we have with other members of our family, or denying ourselves some pleasure. Living the Gospel means that we treat others with love and respect. This week remember that you are very important in God’s eyes and thank God for the gift of life and the gift of salvation. S. Betty Larson, OSB, Pastoral Ministry

PROVIDING FOOD IN ST. JOE The Central MN Catholic Worker is helping to provide food to a group of people staying in St. Joe who have experienced homelessness. This is in response to COVID. Dinners are being provided by St. Benedict's Monastery and St. John's University for 4 weekday evenings and community members and restaurants are taking care of Sunday dinners. A group of volunteers helps to shop and bring groceries during the week for breakfast and lunch. The generosity of the community has been tremendous. Thank you to the Church of Saint Joseph and its parishioners for providing meals three Sundays so far! If you would like to offer financial assistance you can do so through Pay Pal (use the email [email protected]) or by sending a check to the Central MN Catholic Worker at P.O. 94 , St. Joseph, MN 56374. For questions email, [email protected] or call 320-316-3290 THANK YOU The children of Leander Meyer are grateful to the Church of St. Joseph for holding a private funeral Mass for our Dad. We thank Father Jerome Tupa and Father Eberhard Schefers for con-celebrating a meaningful service, and David Orzechowski for his inspired singing and piano playing. Special thanks go to Andy and Joseph Loso for ushering and recording the service, and to Karl Terhaar for being the Eucharistic Minister. CONGRATULATIONS Through the Sacrament of Baptism, we welcomed three children into our parish: • Morgan Lindsey, child of Aaron & Nicole Blackmore • Logan James, child of Aaron & Nicole Blackmore • Bryce Harper, child of Dustin Handeland & Michelle

Kurtz “God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ has freed you from sin, given you a new birth by water and the Holy Spirit, and welcomed you into his holy people.” OUR SYMPATHIES Our sympathies go out to the family of Edwin Hartung, brother-in-law to Fran & Marilyn Court, Ralph & Elizabeth Eiynck, and Mike & Arlene Gill. PRECAUTIONS FOR RETURNING TO MASS

AS WE PREPARE TO RETURN TO THE PUBLIC CELEBRATION OF MASS, HERE ARE SOME GUIDELINES AND THINGS TO EXPECT WHICH WILL ENSURE THE SAFETY AND WELL-BEING OF OUR COMMUNITY. • DISPENSATION REMAINS IN EFFECT The Sunday Mass dispensation is still in effect until further notice. If you are feeling ill, please stay home. It is highly encouraged that those who are in an “at-risk” population, including those age 65 and over, should continue to participate in Mass online.

• MASKS ARE ENCOURAGED We have been asked by Bishop Kettler to stress the importance of and to strongly encourage the use of masks by those attending Mass: while entering, while leaving and during Mass. Masks are only to be taken off for receiving Communion.

• SANITIZE Hand sanitizer will be available for you to sanitize your hands before entering and when leaving. Pews, chairs, entrances and other high-use areas will be sanitized between services.

• SEATING Pews will be roped-off/marked to ensure proper social distancing. Chairs will be spaced properly. Only the end sections of the pews will be used. The middle sections must be left empty, to allow for the necessary spacing between those sitting on either of the two ends. Only families/related individuals sharing the same household may sit next to each other.

• KNEELERS We will not be using the kneelers at this time. Please leave them in the upright position and do not risk contaminating them by touching them.

• FOLLOW USHER DIRECTIONS Ushers will provide important direction during Mass. Communion will be distributed one pew/row at a time and one complete side of the church before the other. Dismissal at the end of Mass will also be row by row to encourage proper social distancing.

• SING “IN YOUR HEART” Singing carries additional risk of contamination because of air and droplets being expelled with greater force. Therefore, there will be no congregational singing for now.

• WORSHIP AIDS Missalettes, hymnals and worship aids must be removed. You may bring your own, if you wish.

• SOCIAL DISTANCING Always maintain six feet between yourself and others, even in the Communion line.

• CONGREGATING/SOCIALIZING We should not socialize or gather in small groups before or after Mass whether in the church, gathering space, or parking lot.

• RESTROOMS Restroom use is discouraged. In Saint Joseph, only the restroom near the Vesting Sacristy will be open. The gathering space and Heritage Hall will not be accessible.
