Yes, this is a new update! Our parish resettlement committee invites you to join us in our preparations for this family. In December 2015 we welcomed Bassam’s family related to Majid’s family that arrived in 2014. Now we await the family of the third brother, Kameel. The sponsorship for Kameel’s family, is fully funded by a relative overseas. As co-sponsors, St. Benedict parish is committed to the moral support of this family for one year from the day they arrive. Although we do not yet know the family’s arrival date, we anticipate it will be very soon since the family, currently in Lebanon, completed their medical exam and interview with Canadian immigration officials in that country. The next step is for the family to receive their travel documents. We’ll keep you posted as to their arrival. The family consists of a mother, father, daughter and son, ages 7 and 5. At this stage in the process, we focus our attention on preparations for the young family’s arrival. Below are some ways you could get involved. Preparing to Welcome a

New Syrian Refugee Family

Good news...another Syrian refugee family will soon be here among us.

Consider these suggestions for yourself and share them with others who would join us in living the corporal works of mercy.

help us find a permanent home Do you, or does someone you know, have an upstairs or downstairs of a house to rent in the area of St. Benedict church and school?

donate service drivers with cars, available during the day, to assist with transportation to government agencies, dentist, doctor, settlement agencies.

Sign up in Support of Life and Human Dignity...it’s quick and easy

The Declaration on Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide is the result of efforts of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) and The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC) to collaborate on a response to legislative efforts and legal action that seek to revise Canada’s Criminal Code to allow the practice of euthanasia and assisted suicide. The Declaration demonstrates that commitment to the sanctity of human life and the importance of upholding human dignity leads also to a strong call for renewed efforts in relation to palliative care.

Signing the Declaration will indicate broad support for its stated principles. It will also witness to the desire held by many in Canada to promote palliative care, home care and long-term care, and to ensure compassionate responses at all levels to those who are near death, as well those who are disabled, depressed, elderly or who feel burdened by physical or mental suffering and illness.

This World Day of Prayer for Consecrated Life is a wonderful opportunity for us to thank God for the gifts of these religious sisters, brothers and priests and to pray for God’s blessing upon them in their efforts to faithfully live the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity and obedience.
