Thank you for choosing Camp Sankanac for your child this summer! As we plan for camp, our desire and goal is to make it the best possible experience for your child in a safe, God honoring, outdoor environment. We trust and pray that each camper will return home strongerstronger physically from the outdoor setting and challenging activities, stronger emotionally as they grow in confidence and build relationships with new friends and counselors, and stronger spiritually as they have the opportunity to learn more about God in a peaceful and focused setting, without distraction. Here is some important information that will be helpful as you plan for your child’s Sankanac experienceSunday from 2-4pm (no early check in available, please plan accordingly) When you arrive at Sankanac, the first thing you will do is check into our welcome tent outside the office building (across from the pool). Here you will settle your FIRST: balance (if you haven’t already-paying in advance will save you a wait in line), learn what cabin your child is in, what their counselor’s name is and receive further instructions as you continue the registration process. We usually recommend that parents prepare to be at camp for ½ hour to an hour to settle their child in. TIP: Leave all luggage in your car until you complete the first 3 portions of registration (welcome tent, nurse & camp store). Bring all medications your child may be taking (in their original prescribed container) and spending money for our camp store. After checking in, you will head down to the Dining Hall to check in with our camp nurse. Here each child will have a short interview with one of our SECOND: experienced nurses and parents will check all medication in with our head nurse. Medication and allergy details must be entered in online at least one week prior to camp. Not filling out health/medication details out online in advance will create a much longer check in process for you upon arrival. Please bring all medication to camp in the original as prescribed bottles. If your child has a food allergy or special diet, please contact our cook at [email protected] one week prior to camp. Then everyone will head right next door into our Trading Post (camp store). In the Trading Post families can enjoy delicious ice cream and purchase Sankanac gear THIRD: and t-shirts. It is here that parents can deposit spending money into a safe account for their camper. All purchases in the Trading Post and Craft Loft are deducted from this same account. We usually recommend leaving between $20-30 for your child. If you know your child will want to do crafts, we recommend leaving between $5-10 extra. Campers also have the opportunity to give to our guest speaker/missionary through an offering. This offering is presented to our guest speaker/missionary at the end of the week. The camper’s offering amount is deducted from their Trading Post account. Any funds remaining in the Trading Post account at the end of the week will be reimbursed to you in cash when you pick your camper up. Time to head to your cabin! Head back to your car and grab your child’s luggage and head to the cabin. There you will meet your child’s counselor and help you FOURTH: child set up their bunk and luggage. NO CAMPERS OR LUGGAGE MAY ENTER A CABIN UNTIL THEY HAVE SEEN THE NURSE FIRST. Feel like testing out our pool?! It’s time for the swim test! Each camper will be asked to swim the width of the pool and back for our certified lifeguard. This simple FIFTH: test allows our lifeguard to see where the child’s swimming skills are at and what areas of the pool the child can use. Campers who haven’t had as much experience swimming may be strongly encouraged to choose our American Red-Cross standard swimming class for one of their morning electives so they can build on their skills as a swimmer. Parents with campers ages 7-10 are asked to stay at camp for the swim test and accompany the camper to the pool and then back to their cabin after. Parents with children ages 11-16 are welcome to stay for the swim test but may choose to say their goodbyes prior. If weather prevents us from having the swim test, campers will take the test on Monday morning.
