We are all aware of the wildfires that swept through Gatlinburg and the surrounding area last week. First Baptist Church of Gatlinburg was not damaged by the fire, but many of the families that they serve have been affected. These families are the poorest of the poor. First Bap-tist is providing Christmas for these families. There are 250 children and 250 adults. They are collecting toys for babies through teenagers and small gifts for the adults, with the biggest need for children’s toys. If you can purchase a toy or make a donation towards the purchase of such, please drop off at the Smithwood’s church office or give to Betsy Loveday. The deadline to help is Wednesday, December 14th. Thank you for your generosity in reaching out to our community.
Please join us these next weeks as we celebrate the Christmas season with opportunities to worship
through music, giving and fellowship.
Carols and Classics Sunday, December 11th at 6:00 pm
Our sanctuary choir, accompanists, soloists and children’s choir will be joined by Knoxville Symphony players to present beautiful and worshipful
carol arrangements, Christmas anthems, and choruses from MESSIAH.
Service of Lessons and Carols Sunday, December 18th at 6:00 pm
This beautiful worship event will include communion and will be in place of our normal Christmas Eve Service.
Christ is Born Sunday, December 25th at 10:45 am
Christmas morning celebration in worship. A very special, warm, family worship time with church family and the entire community.
This is one of the best times all year to invite neighbors and friends to come visit and worship with you.
A Message from this week’s
Guest Preacher, Dr. Larry Fields, Pastor Emeritus,
Central Baptist Church of Bearden
I look forward to the invitation to preach again at Smithwood Baptist Church. In the past it has been my privilege to share from time to time as a guest min-ister. I look forward to renewing friend-
ships and to assist the church family during this interim period. What a joy it will be for me to worship with you during the Season of Advent on December 11th. I look forward to celebrating with you as we remember again the greatest gift the world has ever received. That gift was the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
LOTTIE MOON 2016 CHRISTMAS OFFERING Our Goal: $14,000
Collected to Date: $535
Your giving enables missionaries to be sent to make disciples and multi-ply churches among unreached peoples and places for the glory of God.
SEND A CHRISTMAS GREETING TO POLAND!
There will be a basket on the table in the Welcome
Center to collect Christmas cards for Ted and Bev-
erly Bond Holmes, who are serving as our mission-
aries in Warsaw, Poland. If you would like to send
Christmas wishes to Ted and Beverly, please leave
your card in the basket by Sunday, December 18th,
to allow mailing time.
Our current financial secretary, Susan Connolly, will be retiring at the end of the year. Our new financial secretary, Julia Burnett, began work on November 28th, training with Susan before she leaves. Julia retired from Temp Sys-tems, Inc. as their Business Manager in 2014. She and her husband live in Halls and attend Sixth Avenue Baptist
Church. They have two children and three grandchildren. We are very excited to have Julia join our staff. Welcome Julia!
In just a few short weeks, we will be entering a new year—2017! When the new year begins, so do our new schedules. With this in mind, we would like to recruit volunteers to serve in the following areas: Readers: read Scripture during morning worship. Van Drivers: drive the church van to pick up our members who are unable to drive. Must have a clean driving record. Nursery Workers: minister to our littlest ones during Sunday school and morning worship. Must pass a background check. Office Volunteers: answer phones and greet visitors when the secretary is out of the office due to illness or time off.
What a blessing it is for CEEC to be able to use your facilities for our choir concerts! Your kindness and hospitality are much appreciated!
In Christ’s Love,
The CEEC (Christian Educational Enrichment Co-op) Choir
