FROM THE PASTOR
THE ORDINATION OF ADAM WASOWSKI
This coming Friday, May 3, seminarian Adam Wasowski will be ordained a deacon of the Catholic Church. Within the sacrament
of Holy Orders, the first order of the ordained is the Order of Deacons. Deacons are focused on service to the needy, prayer for the
community, the Ministry of the Word (including preaching, with the bishop’s permission), and the Ministry of the sacraments
(deacons can be authorized to preside at weddings and baptisms). Adam will be ordained at 7:30 pm at St. Margaret of Scotland
Church in Morristown. All are welcome. Tickets are not required. It is important that we try to attend in order to show our sup-
port of Adam on this most significant day.
DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY AND THE PLENARY INDULGENCE
Today is Divine Mercy Sunday. This Feast has existed in the Church since the year 2000. The Feast was inaugurated on May 5,
2000, by the decree of Pope St. John Paul II. It is a celebration of God’s greatest attribute, His Mercy.
Today (Sunday), at 2:30 pm in church we will celebrate this Feast with a special service which will include Benediction of the
Most Blessed Sacrament and the sung Chaplet of Divine Mercy. I hope you can join us!
A plenary indulgence can be gained today under the usual and the extraordinary conditions. There are three usual conditions: first,
sacramental confession within 20 days of the Feast, reception of communion on the Feast and prayer for the intentions of the Holy
Father. The extraordinary condition is either is an act of complete detachment from sin or prayer before the Blessed Sacrament (the
Creed and the Our Father).
A NEED FOR TITHING TESTIMONY
I am still in need of two persons who can give a brief testimony to the parish about their experience of tithing. The purpose of the
talks is to reinforce our people in God’s Plan for Giving. Please let me know as soon as possible if you can help with this. God
bless.
SOME SPECIAL MAY EVENTS
Today, I would like to remind you of four special parish events in May: the ordination of Adam Wasowski, the Pilgrimage to Po-
land, the First Communions, and the May procession.
EWTN, THE CATHOLIC CHANNEL
The Catholic television network, EWTN, offers a news program daily at 6 and 9 pm. They do a fine job of giving us the news from
a Catholic perspective. I hope you will give it a try.
ASSISTED SUICIDE LAW
New Jersey is close to ratifying a law to allow physician assisted suicide. The law is now on the Governor’s desk awaiting his sig-
nature. We as Catholics oppose this bill. We oppose it, first, because suicide is wrong. Second, we oppose it because it is easily
abused, e.g., people who are aged or sick do not want to be a burden and the government and the insurance industry are anxious to
save money, so suicide can save some money. Please consider contacting the Governor to express your concerns.
BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
A Life in the Spirit Seminar will be held in Sparta at Our Lady of the Lake Church beginning May 7 at 7:30 pm.
Fr. Cohen tells us: “What can we expect when we are ‘baptized with the Holy Spirit’? We can expect an immediate or gradual ex-
perience of deeper union with God, our loving Father and with Jesus, our Lord and Friend; a fresh appreciation of Scripture; a
greater love for others and a desire for Christian fellowship; the fuller presence in our lives of the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy,
peace, patience and more (see Galatians 5:22-23); the receptions of one or more of the Charismatic gifts of the Spirit such as dis-
cernment, service, prophecy, praying in tongues, healing (see 1 Corinthians 12-14). This gift of a new fullness of the Holy Spirit is,
I believe, the grace of our age. ‘Ask and it will be given to you!’” To register or for information, please contact Betty Pinsonault
(973-448-8847).
A POWERFUL TEACHING TOOL — THE MOVIE, “UNPLANNED”
If you have not yet seen the film, “Unplanned”, I hope you will see it before it leaves the theatres. It is the story of a Planned
Parenthood director who left her position after eight years and after she personally assisted at an abortion and saw the ultrasound of
the baby struggling to live as the doctor was taking his life. It is well worth seeing. This movie can be a great help for our young
people to know the reality of abortion.
God bless.

TITHING IS GOD’S PLAN FOR GIVING.
Biblically a tithe means 10%. All are asked to consider
tithing and return 10% of our income to the Lord (5% to
the parish, 5% to God’s other charities) in gratitude. The
spiritual practice of tithing disposes us to make God first
in every area of our lives! The aim is to secure not the
tithe, but the tither. Not the gift, but the giver — for God!
Tithing Income April 21, 2019 $32,290.00
Tithing Income April 22, 2018 $________* *Donation amount unavailable at time of bulletin printing.
Reflection: “Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with
you. As the Father has sent Me, so I send you.’”
(John 20:21)
Peace – the first gift of the risen Lord. Just as Jesus sent
the apostles out into the world, so too, He sends us. As
disciples of Jesus, we are called to be grateful and gener-
ous. Look for opportunities to share His peace, not only
within our local parish boundaries, but outside of them as
well. In giving, we receive the peace of Jesus Christ.
From Father Nick: “Once again, I thank you for your
faithfulness in giving.”
From a member of St. Lawrence Church, Chester: “It
gives me great joy to give to God. When I am sacrificing,
I am sure that God knows and is pleased.”
SEEING IS BELIEVING
Seeing is believing! Since cell-
phone screens connect us instant-
ly to social media, live TV, and
loved ones’ faces near and far,
“Doubting Thomas” could be our
patron saint: “Unless I see, I will
not believe!” But how comforting
for any of us who share Thomas’s doubt, or love
“doubters” who do, to see how kindly Jesus responds. By
offering the very evidence that Thomas demanded, Jesus
doesn’t scold Thomas, but seems to understand such
skepticism. Could Jesus have been thinking of us, who
long to believe that “Jesus is risen!” but see so much suf-
fering, and perhaps even cause some, that we wonder,
how could something so wonderful be true? In today’s
reading from the Acts of the Apostles, the risen Jesus’
healing love comforts through disciples who love others.
In Revelation, “our brother John” doesn’t just claim he
saw Jesus alive, but passes on Jesus’ life-giving words,
“Do not be afraid.” Seeing Jesus in others is believing!
Do an act of kindness as a family.
TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — A large number of people gathered,
bringing the sick, and all were cured (Acts 5:12-16).
Psalm — Give thanks to the Lord for He is good, His
love is everlasting (Psalm 118).
Second Reading — Do not be afraid. I am the first and the
last, the one who lives (Revelation 1:9-11a, 12-13, 17-19).
Gospel — The risen Christ comes to His disciples with
peace and the Spirit. The absent Thomas doubts
(John 20:19-31).
