www.leithvalley.org.nz General Assembly Well we’re here and Auckland has put on its usual mix of rain and… rain and… sun, briefly. We are in the impressive facilities of the St Kentigern’s College and so are being well looked after here. The Assembly has started with a day’s training for Minsters which is unique in the modern era. Assemblies have traditionally been largely about business, business and more business and that has left most people who attend fairly dull after 5 days. This year things have changed and judging by the morning session they’re looking up. We’ve had a very good leadership training session and I head off to the afternoon session shortly. You’ll be pleased to know that Helen and Ivan are behaving themselves and it’s been great to be accommodated with Ged Forbes one of our newer members as he attends the training event put on for church members over two days starting tomorrow. This is another initiative from our Moderator Andrew Norton and one which will, again change things considerably up here. Assembly starts properly tomorrow with a hui and we get into the business immediately. Pray that we will find the grace to be a church which can love through and in the midst of difference for there is always a difference of opinion at these meetings and in recent years it has left Assembly feeling quite bruised. We need the Spirit’s intervention not to go down this path but to allow opinions simply to be opinions and to move on into the real business of the kingdom. I pray that this Sunday will be a mighty day of worship and prayer and that you will know God’s presence amongst you as you meet!
