A

A solar pannel is made of specia cells which have two layers

One of these layers has far more electrons than the other

When sunlight hits the cell, the electrons become excited

They start to jump over to the layers with more electons

This flow of electrons is what we call electricity, and it can be harnessed to power anything from calculators to

cars

Rainwater seeps into the ground and near molten rocks

The water draws heat from the molten rocks and becomes so hot that it turns

Steam is relased though wells of drilled into the ground and channelled past a turbine

Like all steam turbine generators the force the steam is used to turn the turbine blades, which spin the generator and and produce electricity.

After it leaves the turbine the water is pumped back underground to be heated

again.Electricity is sent via pylons and cables to homes around the country.
