Session 1, 2, & 3 Enrichment Classes

Grades 2 – 5

Beginning Paths: K - 1Come explore and learn in a thematic environment that immerses primary students in Language Arts, Math, Science and more as they travel around the globe. This class encompasses all subject areas and prepares students for the routines and expectations of kindergarten and first grade. This is a full morning course and students do not transition to any other class. Creative play, music and crafts are all incorporated to ignite your child’s curiosity and intellect.

The following project-based courses will contain a different point of emphasis each session. These descriptions are a general outline and will slightly vary based upon the grade being taught.

Young Authors

Wild & Wacky Science

The only thing better than picking up a great book to read, is picking up a great book that you wrote yourself. This class will stimulate the writing process by allowing students to create their own storybook. Students will discuss the parts that make up a story, create their own storyboard, walk through the editing process, act as an illustrator and publish a final product.

The best way to understand science is to touch it, smell it, see it and hear it. Explore the earth’s most powerful forces using soil, leaves, rocks, water and more. Put physics to the test! Experiment with acids and bases and create cool chemical reactions. Each day we will uncover the secrets of science by doing our own experiments.

Anatomy of the Athlete

Calling all Engineers

Documentary Film

Rock Band

Get ready for hands on classroom experience exploring how the body and mind of the athlete works. Learn first hand the inner workings of the super star athletes you see on television. What they eat, how their muscles work, what exercises they do, and so much more. Students will not only learn how to eat like a champion, practice like a star and perform like a pro, but they will also learn the anatomical process of each. Course includes field and classroom time.

The demand for a strong foundation in both mathematics and science is growing rapidly in today’s world. This class is designed to combine the subjects with critical thinking and problem solving skills in order to help foster the growth of our future engineers. Egg Drop challenge and Soda-Bottle Rocket building are two highlighted projects amongst many others.

Students go beyond “behind the scenes” and instead “create the scenes” in this hands-on filmmaking class. From interviewing, videotaping, editing and more, each student will be involved with the film process from start to finish. Join us as we create a documentary made entirely by the students.

Drum Circle Jam Musicians will explore percussion instruments and how individual rhythms can join together to create a very powerful ensemble sound - the whole being much more than the sum of the parts. Students will learn to lead percussion ensembles by distributing and demonstrating proper names and playing position of each instrument, explain specific rhythm parts, use gestures and eye contact to conduct tempo/dynamics/ entrances/endings, and be able to redirect the players if the tempo drifts.
