ECOLE TÖPFFER GENEVAPAIRING LANGUAGE COURSES WITH OUTDOOR AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

Ecole Toepfer pairs language courses with interactive clubs and sports.

Located in Geneva, Switzerland, its po-sition allows for visits to the nearby town of Lausanne and France, only twenty minutes away. There is a strong emphasis on language for non-French speaking campers; they participate in different levels of French depending on their incoming level of knowledge. For those campers already fluent in French, a greater emphasis is placed on subjects such as math and secondary languages of German and English. Typically, the afternoons and weekends are spent par-ticipating in sports and physical fitness in the mountains of Geneva or cultural activities such as excursions to shows, museums, or other accessible parts of Switzerland and France. Campers can either board at the school or come each day. The school (and residence for board-ers) is a house in the Florissant neigh-bourhood of Geneva. The international demographic spans from ages 9 to 17, and the program is intimate at about 150 participants. Ecole Töpffer seeks to achieve both academic and personal stimulation over the summer holidays.

Since we opened our doors in 1987 we have been so fortunate to have

worked with students from all over the world, to learn from them as much as they have learnt from us, and to help them grow, often year after year, in what we feel is a very unique environment. At our core we are a family. Our own children have grown up around our programs. Our families, relations and friends have studied with us and worked for us, serving an exciting and educa-tional apprenticeship to enable them to grow as internationally minded people with an excellent work ethic and an en-ergetic approach to life. It is this attitude and this desire to provide a positive life experience to all

our students that we instill in our staff. A desire to know the individuals that we are charged with caring for, to be posi-tive role models for a full and active life, open to new ideas and experiences. To promote respect and tolerance and to take responsibility for yourself and your actions. In both our Residential Camp in Les Sciernes and our Day Camp in St Legier we have a very high rate of returning stu-dents which we believe says more about the quality of our programs than any-thing we can put down in writing. The Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz, a board-ing school in the south-eastern part

of Switzerland, hosts each summer, the International Summer Camp and Junior Golf Academy of 2-4 weeks. The summer programs offer a combination of lan-guage courses and physical activity. In the mornings, campers between 10-15 years take German or English courses in a small classroom setting. The var-ied sports program and the Junior Golf Academy take place in the afternoons. The latter is an intensive program with daily three hour individualized Golf in-struction from professionals–all mem-bers of the Swiss PGA. The Academy seeks to offer fun drills and motivating trainings for the juniors so they can ben-efit most for their playing handicap or obtain their licence to play. An alterna-tive to the Golf Academy is the diversi-fied sports program, which takes on the mountains of St. Moritz and the Enga-din valley in an active way throughout mountain biking, sailing, climbing and many more options.

Since 1987, Les Elfes International in Verbier has provided children

and teenagers aged 7-18 years old from around the world with holidays that combine the discovery and the practice of new exciting sports with learning and perfecting languages. Verbier is situ-ated in the heart of the Swiss Alps on a sunny plateau guaranteeing an excep-tionally pleasant climate in both sum-mer and winter. The two purpose-built, traditional Swiss Alpine chalets offer charm and comfort to our guests. During Summer Camp from June to August, students will be in a fully interna-tional environment attending language classes, outdoor activities, sports and excursions in and around Switzerland. While children are being cared for, adults may want to rein-

force their French, by attending one of the best adult French language and cul-ture programs available in Switzerland, since 1891, the French Summer Courses (Cours d’Eté) of the University of Geneva. This program offers French language courses throughout the summer, in a unique learning environment. Located in the historical heart of the city of Ge-neva, the French Summer Courses pro-vide an exciting set of 3 to 9 weeks inten-sive course to students from all over the

world and of all levels. Given by highly-qualified teachers, the courses combine language classes, with a wide variety of interesting cultural excursions and conferences. The program offers three types of training: all levels, one to three three-week sessions, with mornings spent studying French in small groups suited to each participant’s level and af-ternoons dedicated to coursework that appeals to students’ individual interests: grammar, reading skills, civilization, songs, pronunciation, etc.

A more in-depth nine-week session of intensive French for beginners is also offered. And finally, for those planning to study at the University of Geneva or another French speaking university, the six-week University Preparatory course is ideal.

TASIS—CHÂTEAU-D’ŒX

The TASIS Summer Language Pro-gram offers four weeks of intensive

language classes for students at all lev-els of French and English. A variety of sports and activities are organized in the afternoons and evenings, for children aged 11-18. Added to the Summer language Program, TASIS offers the new TASIS Ecological Leadership Action Program, that teaches, in Château-d’Œx, young people aged 14-18 to be change agents for the health of the planet’s ecosystems and social communities, as well as their own health and well-being. Young explorers will experience outdoor adventures and team building in the Swiss Alps, study ecology and the environment, learn about wellness and nutrition, create multimedia projects, participate in an eco-action project in Poland and much more. The program has been designed, in collaboration with Martin Horn (broth-er of world-explorer Mike Horn) and project manager of the Pangaea Young Explorers Program, which has inspired the TELAP camp.

The Glion London Summer Academy gives young people aged 16-18 years

old the chance to get an insight into the global hospitality industry and have fun at the same time. The program is a two-week holiday course offering students the opportunity to experience the world of luxury hospitality and be exposed to the education pathways available to hos-pitality management students. The program will enable students to gain knowledge and skills through lectures and workshops in a variety of areas including F&B, event manage-ment, global hospitality trends, and key concepts within the hospitality industry. In addition, those attending will explore London by visiting world-renowned com-panies including a 5-star hotel, dining and entertainment experiences and ex-cursions. Students will be accommodated on Glion London’s campus, located on the historical grounds of Roehampton Uni-versity in South West London.

LONDON SUMMER ENGLISH PROGRAM

The Summer English Program com-bines intensive English language
