TEACHING AND RESEARCHING LAW AND ECONOMICS The lectures on public and private law and economics are complemented by seminars with invited guests who present their recent research on topics of environmental, financial, and institutional law and economics. Invited guest speakers:

Georg Ringe is Director of the Institute of Law & Economics at the University of Hamburg and Visiting Professor at the University of Oxford, Faculty of Law. His research focuses on questions of corporate law, capital markets, and financial regulation, from an interdisciplinary and comparative perspective. He is a Research Member with the European Corporate Governance Institute, Fellow at the European Banking Institute, and co-editor of the Journal of Financial Regulation. Stefan Voigt has been Director of the Institute of Law and Economics since 2009. He is a fellow of the CESifo Group in Munich and affiliated with the International Centre for Economic Research (ICER) in Turin. His research focuses on the economic effects of alternative constitutional rules and the consequences of different judicial structures. He is co-publisher of the Review of Law and Economics and member of editorial boards of journals such as Public Choice, Constitutional Political Economy, and the Review of Austrian Economics.

JULY 1 – 5 PROF. EVA VAN DER ZEE, HAMBURG UNIVERSITY BEHAVIORAL LAW AND ECONOMICS This course will provide students with an overview of the burgeoning field of behavioral economics as applied to legal research. Eva van der Zee is junior professor for international law at the Institute of law and economics. JULY 8 – 12 PROF. MARIO FERRERO ECONOMICS OF RELIGION This course will give an introduction to the analysis of religions and religious behavior with economic methodology. Mario Ferrero is professor at the Institute of Public Policy and Public Choice (POLIS) of the University of Eastern Piedmont. JULY 15 – 19 DR. SVENJA HIPPEL APPLIED EXPERIMENTAL ECONOMICS This course will introduce students to experimental methods in economics. Svenja Hippel has a post-doc position at the Chair for Economics, Contract Theory, and Information Economics at Würzburg University. She obtained her PhD from the Max Planck Institute for Research on Collective Goods in Bonn.

DAAD Program Dialogue with the Muslim World The three-year project Dialogue with the Muslim World under the umbrella of the German Academic Exchange Service is meant to foster cooperation in research and teaching between the University of Hamburg and partner institutions in the Middle East. The topical focus is on methods of behavioral and experimental economics to investigate economic rationality and socio-economic behavior in the Arab region”. The two main project partners are the American University of Beirut and the British University in Egypt.

European Doctorate in Law and Economics The European Doctorate in Law and Economics (EDLE) is offered by the three partner universities, Bologna, Hamburg and Rotterdam. Upon completion of the three-year study period, a doctoral degree is awarded by each partner university. Doctorate candidates gain the unique opportunity for research in a field of growing importance in at least three different countries. They are prepared for careers in academia as well as for responsible positions in governmental institutions, research organizations, international law firms and consulting groups.
