Summer Rec Camp 2019 Handbook
Hatfield Township 215.855.0900 www.hatfield.org
Hello and welcome to Summer Rec Camp! To those of you who participated in this program in the past and those of you who are joining us for the first time, WELCOME! Hatfield Township is thrilled that you will be joining the Summer Rec Camp program for the 2019 summer season! We hope you have a positive and exciting camp experience! Summer Rec Camp has been providing fun and active summers for children for many years. In its beginning years, the camp hosted approximately 20 children. Over the years the camp has grown and now provides spaces for over 80+ children! Every year the Parks and Recreation Department and Summer Rec Camp staff works hard to make changes that will improve the camp system and benefit the participants. Enclosed is important information in regards to the camp. This information will assist in providing your child and other participating children with a safe and positive summer full of fun! Please print and keep a copy of this handbook for your records and for reference throughout the summer. You may also choose to make and keep a copy of any registration forms you submit. We look forward to meeting everyone and making this summer a great one! Sincerely,
Hatfield Township Summer Rec Camp Staff Hatfield Township Parks and Recreation Department Summer Rec Camp Staff
GENERAL CAMP INFO
In the event of bad weather, the camp will move to the Hatfield Town-ship Administration Building. You will receive notifications via email when this change in location occurs. Please use the SIDE entrance of the township building for drop off and pick up on these days.
Each year we use public parks and also a public pool. There will be other people at each location. Please speak to your children about talking to strangers. All of our counselors will be wearing STAFF shirts and ID badges so children can easily identify them.
The use of cell phones is NOT permitted during camp hours. If you would like your child to bring a phone that is fine, but it must remain in their bags during camp hours. If you need to get in touch with your child during the day, please contact the Hatfield Township Administration Building.
We strongly recommend that all campers wear sneakers each day. Chil-dren will need to bring sandals, swimsuits, and a towel on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the pool. If additional swimming days are added due to weather, you will be notified prior. Camp t-shirts MUST be worn on field trips!!!
The camp will make frequent bathroom breaks as well as supervise the bathroom facility from the outside. All campers need to be able to use the restrooms unassisted.
Children are responsible for bringing their own lunch everyday. It is recom-mended that they have an insulated lunch bag as there is no refrigeration available. Bags must be clearly marked with child’s name. Water bottles are also required. Snacks are permitted. NO GLASS!
It is imperative that we have all pertinent medical information concerning your child. This includes learning disabilities like ADHD. All medical infor-mation is kept strictly confidential.
Backpacks are permitted at camp but we suggest that anything valuable be left at home. We are not responsible if something is stolen but we will make every effort to prevent it. Please make sure any and all items are clearly la-beled with your child’s name.
Camp Check-In begins at 9:00am and runs until 9:30am. Check-Out begins at 3:30pm and runs until 4:00pm. Campers will be divided into Check-In and Check-Out groups for the summer. These groups are ONLY for check-in and check-out. Staff will check IDs at Check-Out for safety purposes. Please be sure to have your ID with you when you pick up your child.
The Summer Rec Camp is offered to children ages 6-12 years old. Camp will be based out of School Road Park this year in an effort to ac-commodate more participants and diversify the selection of activities, events, and opportunities for the campers.
MEDICAL INFORMATION It is extremely important that we have all necessary medical information concerning
your child. This also includes any learning disabilities. If your child has asthma and uses an inhaler it must be checked in with one of the
camp supervisors to keep on site. It MUST be labeled. If your child has allergies and uses an Epipen, it must be checked in with a camp
supervisor. It will be kept on site. It MUST be labeled. Please apply sunscreen to your child daily. Also, pack sunscreen with your child as
periodic announcements will be made to reapply sunscreen throughout the day. *Counselors will NOT apply sunscreen to children but can assist.
All medical information is kept strictly confidential. Our staff is fully trained and certified in First Aid and CPR. They have also been
trained to handle minor emergencies. Please do not allow child to attend if they have a fever, pink eye, lice, or are getting
sick, etc.
SWIMMING
Similar to previous years the campers will go swimming after lunch at the Hatfield Aquatic Cen-ter. They will swim on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons each week. After swimming they will return to School Road Park for Check-Out. Please be sure to either have your child wear their swimsuit and pack a towel, change of shoes, clothes, etc. for after swimming OR have your child pack their swimsuit, towel, etc. to change into at the pool. If your child does not wish to swim, they will have access to the activity center gaga pit, basketball courts, and other various activities. Children are welcome to bring a book, coloring, or any additional items they would like if they do not want to swim.
WEATHER ADVISORY
If there is severe rain or heat index, camp will be held in the Hatfield Township Administration Building. We will notify you of any changes via email. Emails will be sent to the account holder of record. If you would like others to be emailed also,
please add their email address to your account. If camp moves to the administration building, please use the side entrance of the building for camp purposes. There will be
signs to designate where to enter and exit for camp.

BEHAVIOR ISSUES
Please take the time to talk to your child about the importance of their behavior and actions while at camp. They should act the same way at camp as they do in school. We go over the camp rules at the beginning of every week at our morn-ing meeting, but parents/guardians reinforcing this with the campers has more
of an impact.
Hatfield Township takes behavior issues very seriously. The township maintains protocols to deal with situations
involving misbehavior. We have a ZERO TOLERANCE policy for the following issues. Your child may be immediately removed from our camp system with NO REFUND: Bullying Drugs Alcohol Weapons Please refer to the behavior grid on the next page to learn how our system works. Your child will have the same behavior grid all summer. Consequences depend on the severity of the offense. The following procedure is followed when a write up occurs: 1. Infraction Occurs 2. Write– Up occurs by camp staff 3. Camp staff then turns write up into Supervisor 4. Supervisor determines if write up is warranted. 5. If write up is warranted the report is turned into the Parks & Recreation Department
and documented. 6. After each write up, the camp supervisor will sit down with the child and go over
what was written up and why. It is also explained to the camper that their parent will be notified of the incident.
7. Parent/ Guardian will either be notified via phone or in person the day the incident occurs based on the severity of each individual incident.
8. Parent or guardian will be required to sign a receipt of notification which will be the actual behavior report that was filled out.
Please keep in mind that Hatfield Township reserves the right to change our behavior procedures based on the severity of the incident.
