(Page 1) Just over a week ago, my father plucked me up like a weed and took me and all our belongings (no, that is not true-he did not bring the chestnut tree, the willow, the maple, the hayloft, or the swimming hole, which all belonged to me)

(Page 1) This passage shows that Salamancas true belonging is with nature, in Kentucky. She feels comfort when she was a part of the Earth back in her old home, where she could find true happiness. But she later discovers, it isnt where you are but who you are with that matters.

(Page 107) He loved the farm because he could be out in the real air, and he wouldnt wear work gloves because he liked to touch the earth and the wood and the animals. It was painful for him to go to work in an office when we moved. He did not like being sealed up inside with nothing real to touch.

(Page 107) This passage is used to demonstrate that Salamancas father felt an acceptance when he was outside. Therefore, his belonging is with nature, much like Salamancas and Sals mother.

(Page 273) Gramps lay down on the bed and stared up at the ceilingI miss my gooseberry. I sat down on the other side of the bed and held his hand. This aint your marriage bedGramps cleared his throat and said, But it will have to do.

(Page 273) I chose this passage because it clearly indicates that Gramps had felt as though his gooseberry was a part of him. Gooseberry, being Gram meant a lot to Gramps because he truly loved her, so without her, he has lost a valuable belonging, just like his marriage bed. Throughout the story, It is noted that Gramps would prefer his marriage bed over all others.
