    Short Description: To provide support to the Parent Child Counsellors in the Parent-Child Centre.Work within a collaborative approach to provide support to pregnant and parenting youth and theirchildren.

    Jessies - The June Callwood Centre for Young Women is a multi-service resource centre for pregnantteenagers, young parents, and their children. Jessies Centre operates from a feminist perspective. Westrive to demonstrate our commitment to feminism, anti-oppression and positive social change in everyaspect of our structure and functioning.

    Tasks and Responsibilities:

    Working with Children:

    Provide daily care for children ages 0-4 yrs old, including play, feeding, diapering and sleep routines Plan and implement daily activities such as sensory, music, crafts and outdoor play Model age-appropriate interactions between care providers and children Consistently provide children with opportunities to enhance language development Document parent led routines on forms

    Set up and tidy up gross motor equipment on the outdoor deck Maintain the Parent-Child Centre including daily set-up, closing routine and general cleaning and

    sanitizing.

    Working with Families:

    Respect confidentiality for families Assist participants to become familiar with the programs and services Jessies provides for families Provide non judgmental and respectful support for participants in the program Refer parents to the appropriate staff when issues arise that may require intervention Recognize diversity regarding many aspects of participants lives i.e. race, culture, family structure,

    income level and source, sexual orientation Use appropriate language and methods of communication when communicating with participants

    Be aware and sensitive to the different cultural and spiritual beliefs/practices of participants

    Supporting the Centres overall programs

    Assist in organizing clothes, toys and equipment distributed is the swap shop Ensure the toys and equipment displayed is safe, clean and developmentally appropriate Answer calls and provide welcoming and informal support at reception Assist with preparing and coordinating supplies needed for weekly summer outings

    Attend weekly summer outings at various locations in the GTA and provide support for families that

    attend

    Physical Demands of the Nursery Setting

    Multiple demands and constant interruption in tasks Lifting, carrying and holding children up to 35lbs. while standing and seated Sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time Kneeling and squatting on the floor during play and supervision of children Outdoor supervision of children and parent activities Exposure to cleaning products i.e. bleach solution

    Exposure to bacterial and viral infections Exposure to noise

    Eligibility Criteria

    The Government of Canada has strict eligibility criteria for these positions. Applicants must be:

    between 15 and 30 years of age; registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year (2012/2013) and intend to return

    to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year (2013/2014); Canadian citizens or permanent residents or have official refugee protection status under the

    Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (foreign students are not eligible); and legally entitled to work in Canada, according to relevant provincial/territorial legislation and

    regulations.

    Requirements Some professional and/or personal experience working with youth Understanding issues and barriers relating to pregnant and parenting youth; non-judgmental, pro-choice approach to sex, birth control, parenting, abortion, adoption Positive and friendly demeanor Physically able to lift up to 35lbs Ability to pass a vulnerable persons police check

    Second language considered an asset
