    GUIDELINES FOR SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROJECTS

    1. OBJECTIVES To enable students to transfer their analytical, integrative, team play etc. skills honed in

    classroom to the work place as well as to understand the complexities of the corporateworld first hand.

    To train students to focus on a narrow bandwidth of a selected topic/field, (micro and notmacro themes) to facilitate its in-depth study using quantitative/qualitativemeasurement tools to organize data, intensely focus on the area and arrive at reasonedconclusions/about the issue or problem.

    To provide opportunities for networking with people who matter in industry/corporates/organizations.

    To aim at the acquisition of pre-placement offers wherever suitable and appropriate.

    Recruiters attach great significance to the Summer Internship Project Report in thefinal placement interview and in depth questions about on it can be expected.Hence, the Project Report should be perceived as a critical tool which signals astudents potential to the recruiter. BIMTECH expects every student to take thisactivity very seriously and turn in an excellent Project Report at the end ofinternship.

    2. DURATIONBarring the PGDM (SDP) programme, the duration of the summer training project for all theother streams (PGDM, IB, IBM and RM) will be for the two months between 15th April to 15th June2012.

    3. OBJECT COMPANYStudents should aim at working with companies who provide challenging learning opportunitiesrather than make their decision on the basis of hometown convenience or stipend.

    4. COMPANIES FOR SUMMER PROJECT CCR will strive to bring to the notice of students summer project opportunities available

    at different companies from the month of November onwards or even earlier.

    Students are also permitted to pursue summer internship projects in companies whichare identified by them on their own, subject to the approval of faculty mentor chosen bythem.

    Those students who are without viable summer projects in their hand as on 1st Februarymay approach CCR for allocation of companies/organizations.

    5. SUMMER INTERNSHIP WORKSHOP Between the months from January to March, two/three interactive workshops will be held

    in the campus to give detailed guidelines and a roadmap to students on the nitty grittyof summer projects, the dos and donts etc. Students will also have occasion to interactwith executives from corporates in the workshop; will be told as to what is expected ofthem during their internship, the needs of the industry etc. Attendance will becompulsory for all the workshops.

    6. FACULTY ALLOCATION, REPORTING & SUPERVISION Prior to finalization of a particular faculty as the academic mentor, students should

    submit one A4 size page note to the mentor as to the proposed area of research, intentand objective of the summer project. The academic mentor would give approval forbeing the mentor if he/she is satisfied with the students submission after assessing thepotential learning opportunity and commitment of the student. Students should givetheir write-ups well in time so that the mentor has adequate opportunity to go throughthem.

    Students are advised to access BIMTECHs Knowledge Portal (see website) as well asTATTVA for guidance on model Summer Project Report.

    Students are free to choose any faculty from the domain area of the project fromamongst the regular BIMTECH faculty (including the adjunct faculty) as their academicguide/mentor.

    Not more than 10 students can register under any one faculty as a mentor for summerinternship. The date from which summer internship can be registered with a facultymentor will be announced by the CCR. The basis of selection will be first come, firstserved if more than 10 students apply for registration with any one faculty mentor. (Theaim is to provide adequate attention for each student.)

    Students will be given a reporting format which will record the activities, date/day wisefor the week. This e- report should be submitted to the faculty mentor on the firstworking day of the ensuing week. Irregular / habitual late submission will entail a

    penalty up to 5 marks.

    The internee shall arrange for a telephonic discussion between the industry mentor andthe academic mentor before finalization of the project topic and the title of the project.

    The student is expected to be in telephonic contact with the academic mentor at leasttwo to three times a month.

    The faculty mentor would be making at least one visit to the workplace of the student formeeting with the industry mentor to review the progress made by the student and alsoto build up long term relationship between BIMTECH and the company.

    On a random basis, at least one completed project report per academic mentor would beentrusted to an outside expert for detailed scrutiny to assess the overall quality of the

    project report.

    Note: (i) Outstation students should make their travel plans well in advance so as tomeet the above deadline for submission of final report to CCR.

    (ii) The final Project Report should contain (a) the photostat copy of theindustry mentors certificate and (b) the original copy of the faculty mentorscertificate without which the report will not be accepted by CCR.

    Those students who submit their project reports complete in all respects to CCR on orbefore 20th June, 2012 will earn a bonus of 5 marks. Late submission (on or after 24hours) past the due date will attract a penalty of 5 marks.
