18-27 July 2008 (no performance on Monday 21 July) The Picture Gallery, Paxton House, Berwick upon Tweed summer festival of chamber music PAXTON HOUSE Built to the design of John Adam in 1758 by Patrick Home of Billie for his intended bride, Sophie de Brandt, Paxton House is one of the finest 18th century Palladian country houses in Britain, with the largest collection of Chippendale furniture in Scotland. Our concerts will be presented in the elegant Picture Gallery, which houses paintings from the collection of the National Galleries of Scotland, including works by Raeburn, Wilkie and Lawrence.
