Victoria is about to feel the riddim with the return of Victoria Ska and Reggae Fest. Hosted by the Victoria BC Ska Society, this 18th instalment will bring dozens of ska and reggae acts from all over for fi ve nights of music, plus plenty of afternoon and early evening shows for an all-ages crowd. Headliners include Southern soul progenitor Booker T. Jones, jazzy Jamaican reggae singer Jah9 and ska-core crew La Banda Skalavera making their Canadian debut. This year also marks the seventh annual Rocksteady
Collective, the festival’s visual arts exhibition, which will also feature dancing, workshops and gourmet edibles. And, though they’re the Victoria Ska Society, they’re not going to leave other BC rudies out of the action — while the festival runs in Victoria, the VBCSS will be hosting shows in Cumberland, Vancouver and Whistler featuring some of the festival’s biggest acts, including New Zealand’s the Black Seeds, UK’s the Skints and the Beach Boys’ Mike Love. June 14 to 19; Victoria, BC; $14.50 to $179.50; victoriaskafest.ca

Whether it's an insatiable desire for grilled meats and fermented beverages or a quest for the freshest emergent sounds, Canadian festival season will take care of you.
