2020 SUMMER ART ACADEMY Art Extravaganza – Ages 5-6 Donna Anderson, Art Teacher Day 1 Vocabulary Line Bleed Overlap Collage Warm colors Cool colors On Day 1 the Students will explore art materials being used in new ways other than classical painting and drawing methods. Students will produce two abstract art pieces using line, with markers brushed with wet brushes to produce washes and bleeding areas. Students will use the prompt for a face with exaggerated features, i.e. large eyes, inexact placement, elongated face. Students will use color sticks or crayons to add color using three warm colors and one cool color Students will produce a second face in the same style with marker and brush and water to bleed the lines. After drying, the student will use collage to add color to the picture. Warm colors will be used for the face and cool colors for the background Supplies Crayola Water-based markers Crayola Color sticks or colored pencils or crayons Paint Brush Water in container White wax crayon White paper Glue stick Colored paper for collage, can be construction paper or from magazines

Day 1 Vocabulary

• Line • Bleed • Overlap • Collage • Warm colors • Cool colors

On Day 1 the

• Students will explore art materials being used in new ways other than classical painting and drawing methods.

• Students will produce two abstract art pieces using line, with markers brushed with wet brushes to produce washes and bleeding areas.

EXAMPLES

Example One : Line drawing with marker, using brush and water to produce bleeding lines, color added with color sticks. Three warm colors and one cool color used.

Example 2 : Line drawing with marker, using brush and water to produce bleeding lines. Color is added by using collaged overlapped papers glued with glue stick. Face is warm colors, and the background is cool colors.

DAY 2 Vocabulary

• Wax resist • Dark & Light • Bleed • Wash • Line – zig zag, dots, dashes, boxes, scribble, solid, swirly • Warm colors • Cool Colors

Expanding on Day 1, on Day 2 the

• Students will continue to explore art materials being used in new ways other than classical painting and drawing methods.

• Students will produce an abstract art piece using different lines, wax resist and markers brushed with wet brushes to produce washes and bleeding areas.

• Students will practice making lines with white crayons and coloring over with markers and wet brushes before creating abstract.

• Students will receive a prompt of thinking about roads and maps before starting the abstract.

Day 3

• Students will continue to explore art materials being used in new ways other than classical painting and drawing methods.

• Students will produce a non objective art piece using different lines, wax resist and markers brushed with wet brushes to produce washes and bleeding areas.

• Students will trace their hands with white crayons and black marker painting over markers with wet brushes to create the finished image.

• Students will receive a prompt of thinking about overlapping hands Supplies
