At Oxford Summer Courses, we believe in the best. The best
teachers, the best setting and the best experiences. If you want
summer 2018 to stick in your mind – while stretching and
strengthening it– you’ve come to the right place.
Our courses for 10-12 year olds combine the very best of British
education, culture, and sport. You’ll experience one of the UK’s
top boarding schools; choose from a range of subjects taught
by expert teachers; and have the chance to make friends from across the globe. We use our seven years
of summer school expertise to pack your time with us full of fun, engaging, and exciting activities: your
summer with us will be one to remember.
Our partnership with Wycombe Abbey allows us to offer a secure and interactive environment; between
challenging classes, workshops and on-site activities you’ll be free to explore the school’s grounds and well-
resourced facilities. Beyond Wycombe Abbey, we take trips to famous British attractions such as Harry Potter
World, Legoland or soaking in the sights of London so that you can truly savour all that the UK has to offer.
We founded Oxford Summer Courses in 2010 and have grown from a small organisation to a BAC accredited
provider of short courses. Across seven summers we have welcomed over 1,500 students from across the
globe. Many of our former students now study the subject they read at Oxford Summer Courses at British
Universities, including Oxford and Cambridge. We want to share our knowledge and experience with you –
so join us at Wycombe Abbey, and make summer 2017 unforgettable.

The value of Oxford Summer Courses
We provide a learning experience that would stand alone as a fantastic memory and highlight of any
student’s summer. However, in this increasingly competitive world the value of a good education is more
valuable than ever for securing entry to top academic institutions.
For this reason, at Oxford Summer Courses we give you the opportunity to explore subjects you might not
have had the chance to study yet at school. You can take subjects you might want to study at university and
because we use the same small group teaching method, the course gives a unique insight into what studying
at university is really like. You will return to school having experienced a new way of learning.
We’re dedicated to helping passionate students realise their aims, and hope that by providing a genuinely
stimulating and challenging curriculum, in a collaborative and inspiring learning environment, we can
enable you to get ahead in you chosen subjects, giving you the edge in this increasingly competitive world.
We also aim to improve your written and spoken English skills through this experience.

topic with an expert teacher. Whether you are learning about rocket fuel or robotics, running your own
business or writing music journalism, you’ll be able to discover a whole new world (or two) which goes
beyond what you learn at school.
Your afternoons will be filled with skills-based workshops, making use of the outstanding facilities on our
school campus. Whether it’s performing in a play, wildlife spotting in the British countryside, or trying your
hand at croquet, your time with us will be packed full of new, exciting, and fun experiences.
Your evenings offer the chance to relax after an action-packed day, with leisure activities including arts and
crafts, quiz nights, and a visit to a trampoline park. Our friendly, well-trained pastoral staff will ensure you
are safe and happy, whilst guiding you around the best of what the UK has to offer.

the world is hard to find. The course leaders were helpful and made us all feel welcome.
10 Summer 2018
Our courses for 10-12 year olds focus on broad subject areas, which aim to provide dynamic and interactive
immersion through small group seminars in a variety of interesting subjects. Have a look at our current
options below:
Enterprise Explorers
Have you ever had an idea for a new business? Perhaps you’ve dreamt up an app everyone needs, or think
you’ve spotted the next fast food craze? This course is designed not only to help budding entrepreneurs
develop their ideas, but give a real-world understanding of how to launch them into the world of business.
Learn how to conduct market research (and have a go with your peers…), try your hand at an advertising
campaign, and understand how a new product can go global. Be inspired by the stories of some of the
world’s most successful young entrepreneurs, and improve your teambuilding skills as you work with your
peers on business plans. How far will your idea go?
Tech Explorers
Do you have what it takes to be three types of tech whizz? Our Tech Explorers course brings together skills
from the worlds of technology, engineering, and computer science in a dynamic, robotics-focused course.
Design and construct your own robot, programme its movements, and explore the relationship between
machinery and the environment. You will discover the exciting ways technology is improving our world, and
what life is like for a code breaker or jet plane designer. What problem will your robot solve?
Science Explorers
How much science do we rely on every day? Explore the worlds of Biology, Chemistry and Physics in this tour
of exciting scientific discoveries. Launch your own rocket and learn what life might be like on Mars; examine
the history of medicine and the accidental findings that help keep the world healthy; and experiment with
colours and chemistry as you create your own bath bombs. Your tutor will guide you through the exciting
history of some of the most important scientific discoveries, and show how scientists of the future might
carry out their experiments. What kind of scientist will you be?
Story Explorers
How many stories do you have to tell? Jump into the worlds of journalism and creative writing and develop
your skills as a writer of fiction and non-fiction. From reviewing a new music release to composing a haiku;
breaking a sports story to penning your own page-turning thriller, you will have the opportunity to explore a
whole range of writing styles. You will also dive into the most modern forms of storytelling, uncovering how
a photojournalist can tell a story with no words at all, and how a vlog can attract thousands of viewers. What
kind of storyteller will you be?
English Explorers
Would you like to improve your English? Our English Explorers course offers an interactive, immersive and
confidence-building experience to students with less advanced English skills and fluency. Specialist English
as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers will help you to expand your vocabulary and understanding, and apply
your new skills to a variety of real-life situations.

Highly interactive classes
You will have the opportunity to learn from expert teachers, and participate in fun, highly interactive
classes with other students from around the world. As our classes are small you’ll get lots of attention from
your teacher, and have the chance to focus on the topics which interest you the most. This means you will
receive a higher quality of individualised teaching during your course than you would anywhere else.
Experienced, passionate teaching staff
We are dedicated to selecting highly experienced, passionate teaching staff. Not only are many of our
teachers experts in their fields, they are also chosen because they are great at explaining their subjects and
making them interesting at any level. We don’t just want our students to learn a lot: we want them to be
inspired by what they are learning. You will receive 15 hours of classroom contact time with your tutor
per week. Our classroom teaching is interspersed with interactive learning activities and group projects to
improve your subject knowledge. Our courses offer all sorts of possibilities: you could be creating a gaming
app, drawing up a plan for your own business idea, or writing and performing in a play. We emphasise the
importance of teamwork as well as fun to make sure you get the most out of your experience with us.
Workshops
We offer a programme of exciting skills-based workshops, which are held in the afternoons after morning
lessons. These offer the opportunity to focus on hands-on skills, build confidence and have fun. Our
afternoon workshop programme rotates on a weekly basis, and includes:
• Wildlife & Conservation
• Theatre History
• Debating
• Music
• Animation

Activities
We like to ensure that you have time away from the classroom during your course, to relax and socialise
with your new friends. Our courses are small groups with plenty of staff on hand, so you can be kept busy
and safe during our packed timetable of fun activities. You will participate in activities on-site, using the
excellent facilities at Wycombe Abbey, and off-site, experiencing the sights and history of the UK.
Excursions
We take day trips away from Wycombe Abbey twice a week to locations across the south of England,
including Oxfordshire and London. These include visits to the Queen’s residence at Windsor Castle, the
historic sights of Oxford University, and the Warner Bros Harry Potter Studio Tour. Many of the experienced
staff leading these excursions are current students and alumni of the University of Oxford, so you are
guaranteed an enriched experience. Each course follows a core timetable of day trips and activities, which
may include:
• Windsor Castle and Legoland
• The Harry Potter Studio Tour
• Sights of London, including Big Ben, Tower Bridge, and Buckingham Palace
• Colleges and museums of the University of Oxford
• Kidzania, a 75,000 square foot child-sized city

I know that I will never again have friends like these, and I will never forget the times that we
shared together. Nothing can replace what this program has given me, and I hope that many more
students are able to share this experience in the future.
