ANNOUNCING OURNEW SWIM LESSON PROGRAMThis summer, we’re launching a brand-new swim lesson program. This new child-centered curriculumwill help your child swim confidently at his or her own pace. All classes will focus on water safety, havingfun while learning, building character and increasing self-confidence. We ll provide parents with helpfulresources and weekly feedback to help them be active participants in their child s learning process.

SWIM STARTERS – PARENT/CHILD GROUP LESSONS(AGES 6 MONTHS TO 3 YEARS)

Close supervision is the best way to prevent drowning. Through thisprogram, parents and caregivers will learn how to supervise children inthe water, how to prevent accidents and how to plan for emergencies.This program also promotes water enrichment and aquatic readiness forchildren ages 6 months to 3 years of age. Classes in this phase include:A: Swim Starters: Water DiscoveryParents accompany children in this class, which introduces babies andparents to the aquatic environment through exploration that encouragesthem to enjoy themselves while learning about the water

• To encourage developmentally appropriate expectations by parents ofbabies enrolled in water enrichment programs

• To introduce and emphasize basic aquatic safety to parents

• To provide a positive parent child aquatic experience and anopportunity to build the parent child relationship

• To provide parents and children the opportunity to share commonexperiences, socialize, and interact with one another

B: Swim Starters: Water ExplorationIn this class, parents are guided to work with their child to explore bodypositions, floating, blowing bubbles and fundamental safety and aquaticskills. The general goals of the program are:

• To encourage children to explore their aquatic environment and theirown skills with parents’ help

• To introduce basic water skills such as kicking, breath control, andbody control or balance

• To encourage children to make purposeful movement in the water andmovements in response to visual and verbal cues

• To have fun in the water using toys and floatation devices andinteracting with other children

• To emphasize basic aquatic safety to parents

• To provide a positive parent child aquatic experience and anopportunity to build the parent child relationship

SWIM BASICS FOR PRESCHOOLERSGROUP LESSONS (AGES 3-5)

Designed to meet the needs of preschoolers, these stages build upon afoundation of water safety and drowning prevention by teaching wateradjustment and swim-readiness skills through fun and creative activities.Classes in this phase include:

Level 1: Water AcclimationThe water acclimation class introduces swimmers to the pool andhelps them develop safe water habits. Children develop comfort withunderwater exploration and learn to safely exit in the event of falling intoa body of water. This stage lays the foundation that allows for the child sfuture progress in swimming. The general goals of the program are:

• To encourage children to explore their aquatic environment and theirown skills with instructors’ help

• To teach basic aquatic and boating safety, and allow children to acceptsome of the responsibility for safe practices

Level 2: Water MovementIn this class, children are taught skills that focus on body position andcontrol, forward movement and directional change. This stage alsoreinforces how to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water.The general goals of the class are:

• To encourage children to propel themselves and glide through water

• To develop basic water safety skills in the form of jump, push, turn andgrab, and swim-float-swim

Level 3: Water StaminaIn this class, children focus on swimming longer distances and areintroduced to rotary breathing, integrated rotary breathing and integratedarm and leg action. In the event of falling into a body of water, childrenlearn how to swim to safety. The goals of the program include:

• To develop rotary movement with breathing in the form of side gliderecovery position

• To encourage forward movement on the front and back

• To practice safety techniques in deep water

SWIM BASICS FOR SCHOOL AGEGROUP LESSONS (AGES 5-12)

• To build endurance techniques for deep-water safety

Level 6: Stroke MechanicsIn this class, students refine their stroke technique on all of themajor competitive strokes and learn about competitive swimming.The goals of the program include:

• To develop endurance in the competitive strokes

• To develop skills related to competitive swimming like racing startsand flip turns

• To enhance skills and build endurance in deep water

TEEN/ADULTFor teens and adults just learning to swim or wanting to build onexisting skills, this program gives adults and teens of all ability levelsthe opportunity to receive instruction tailored to their specific needs.

We provide programs and activities where children learn, explore,develop athletic skills, build a positive self-image and develop social relationships with other children.

PRESCHOOL/EARLY LEARNINGPreschool is an exciting time as children embark on new adventures in theworld of learning. At the Y, we regard each child as a unique individual whoneeds to be understood, guided, encouraged and appreciated. Our programsprovide activities where children learn, explore, build a positive self-image and develop strong social and emotional relationships. Y programsencourage children to explore their creativity through multi-sensoryexperiences and create a language-rich environment to promote and fostera love of reading. Children are exposed to art, music, math and science asthey develop expressive and receptive language and gross motor skills.

Kiddie Kollege Introduce your child to other preschoolers as theyplay in this healthy, preschool-style learning environment. This program(3 days per week max) is taught by instructors with childhood educationexperience. Run, jump, play, read, learn, share, paint, draw, sing, danceand show-and-tell in this great introduction to school!

YOUTH SPORTSIn our leagues, athletes play equal time, with positive competitionand family involvement. In addition to developing your child's athleticability and sportsmanship, our programs emphasize the Y's corevalues of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.

PARENTS NIGHT OUTLooking to have a special night out with your spouse or friends withoutthe guilt? The Y offers Parents Night Out each month to help you get thespecial time you need while your child has a great time playing and meetingnew friends. Check the membership desk for our schedule.

PARTY RENTALSAre you looking for a space to rent or to host your child's next birthdayparty? We have space available for rent. For more information, pleasecontact Chuck at [email protected].

PRIVATE/SEMI-PRIVATE SWIM LESSONSPrivate and semi-private lessons accommodate busy family schedules andcan be purchased in packages of 30- or 60-minute lessons.

All private lessons are held during open/family swim for beginners, unless

specific private lesson times are noted on the schedule. Adult students thatcan swim 1 lap non-stop may have their lessons during lap swim. Lessonsare based on a first-come, first-serve basis and on instructor availability.

BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOLDeveloping character and friendships in a safeand nurturing environment.The Y's before and after school programs are more than just child care.They're enrichment programs designed to meet the developmental needsof children with an emphasis on experiential learning, social and emotionaldevelopment and the promotion of healthy living all while providing a fun,safe and nurturing environment for children. In our programs, parents havepeace of mind, knowing their child is in a supportive environment focused ondeveloping their true potential.

Keeping Kids Safe and Engaged When School is Out.Looking for a child care option when your kids are out of school due to aschool holiday, weather closing or winter or spring break? When school'sout, the Y is there to keep kids safe and engaged in fun, healthy activities.Our School Day Out options are designed to engage children in healthyphysical activity and foster positive social interactions. WAHOO SWIM TEAMOn the Wahoo Swim Team, athletes play equal time with positivecompetition and family involvement. The Lake View Wahoos offer kids the opportunity for strong individualgrowth through a dynamic team experience. Team members make newfriends, challenge themselves to improve their strokes and get greatworkouts. The primary season runs during the academic year, mostlyJanuary-April. WHAT IS THE TEEN LEADERS CLUB?The mission of the Teen Leaders Club is to strengthen the community byinstilling the core values of Honesty, Caring, Respect and Responsibility inteens through hands-on, real-life leadership activities, leadership retreatsand volunteering. One of the unique traits of Teen Leaders Club is thateverything is run by the teens themselves. Even the meetings are run by theCAB (Club Advisory Board), consisting of a group of teens chosen by theirpeers to plan and organize meetings and monthly events. Teen Leaders Clubis an opportunity for teens to learn about leadership, get involved with thecommunity and have fun with peers. Essentially, the club is what the groupmakes of it. ADULT PROGRAMSAt the Y, we have a full range of health and wellness optionsto help you stay active, fit and connected.

ADULT SWIM LESSONSIt's never too late to learn how to swim, a vital skill that could save your life.Already know how to swim and want to improve your stroke and hone yourskills? The Y has programs to help you do just that.

Adult Beginner This class is for adults who have little-to-no swimexperience. The instructor will work with adults both as a group andone-on-one. Participants will learn to swim basic front crawl, elementarybackstroke, floating and proper breathing techniques.

Adult Advanced This is for swimmers aged 16+ who are comfortable in thewater and know the fundamentals of swimming (breathing, kicking, floating).Swimmers should be able to swim 2 lengths of the pool and tread water for1 minute. The class will focus on strengthening the front crawl and backcrawl with additional work on sidestroke and breaststroke. This class isgreat for those looking to do a triathlon or join Masters, but are in need ofa little extra guidance.

Les Mills Body Pump Body Pump is a weight-based group fitnessprogram. The classes are performed to music using free weight plates,barbells and an aerobic step. The focus is muscleendurance by moving light weight at high repetitions. Class times vary,see fitness schedule.
