NeW scIeNce ceNterOpening Late Summer 2013the $57 million Science Center will be up and running in late summer. the 55,000-square-foot addition to the current Condike Science Building will be a transforming feature of the Fitchburg State campus. Bright, sunlit atriums will look out over the mainquadrangle. the structure itself will become a physical bookend of the main campus, helping to define the boundaries of the university’s core academic space.

the modernized facility will also be another step in the university’s pursuit of energy sustainability, designed and built to the highest possible standards. Within the additionthere will be shared science components that encourage collaboration among the disciplines explored within its walls. there will also be laboratories, student and faculty research space, vivarium and greenhouse space, and lecture hall space dedicated to biology, chemistry, physics and geo-physical sciences.

our nCate accredited program prepares graduates with the credentials to apply for initial licensure as an elementary school (PreK-8) and/or secondary school (5-12) guidance counselor.Students also have the opportunity to seek dual licensure (PreK-12) with additional coursework.

our program offers a schedule convenient for you: • Students may begin studies in spring, summer, or fall.

• Coursework is offered late afternoons, evenings and Saturdays.

mental health counselingBecome qualified for individual, family, child and group mental health counselingMental health counseling involves the application of the principles of psychotherapy, humandevelopment, learning theory, group dynamics, psychopathology, and intervention/treatmentplanning. this three-year program prepares professionals for counseling positions in a widevariety of settings such as community mental health centers and residential treatment facilities. the applications are relevant to individuals, couples, children, families and groups for the purposes of treating psychopathology and promoting optimal mental health.

the Master of Science in Mental health Counseling degree offers rolling admissions, allowing students tobegin studies in spring, summer, or fall. a minimum of 60 semester hours is required including 12 semester hours of internship. the program may be completed in as little as three years:

• two complete years (including fall, spring, summer semesters) of academic studies

• one year to complete a 600 hour mandated internship. internship hours begin in the fall semester and end at the conclusion of the university’s spring semester in May (approximately 42 weeks)

Program graduates have the opportunity to apply for licensure in mental health counseling (LMHC).
