Transcript of Summer 2011 Rainbow Homes Newsletter
The garden is planted and growing with all the May rains. Shirley, a facilitator at RH, has taken the project under her wing. Peas, cabbage, broccoli and morning glories are well on their way. Seeds and Plants have been obtained from the Garden Resource Center in Lansing. Folks are excited to be able to make pesto and fresh salsa once again.
Our CLS (Community Living Services) Program has been growing in leaps and bounds. Some of the outings residents and clients from the community have enjoyed are:
Tulip Festival, Frederick Meijer‘s Garden, Ella Sharp Museum in Jackson and Alpaca Shear-ing. They have explored new activities in and around the greater Lansing area. Classes have included Men and Women‘s Spa Day, (taking care of your body), Etiquette in Res-taurants as well as volunteering at CACS, (Capital Area Community Services) setting up food boxes.
Our residents are very much appreciative of all the assistance they have received!

Summer—2011 Friends of Rainbow Homes,
Summer has arrived and as you will see, our 29 residents have been dodging the raindrops all spring with activities. Residents have made new friends with area volunteer groups as you will read about below:
On April 15, UPS volunteers from the Airport Division spent the day organizing our apart-ment attics. If you have ever been involved with ―Spring Cleaning‖ for an organization you would know that the help was a blessing! Thank you to our UPS friends. The group also assem-bled and stained picnic tables as well as the yard swings. They also turned the compost pile and added to the garden bins.
Bev Schaffer, a teacher from Mason High School FCCLA (Family, Career & Community Leaders of America.) assisted 12 students in weeding and planting flowers around the grounds.
Volunteer Women from Great Lakes Chris-tian College visit every third Thursday morning to socialize and play games with the residents.
The Saltman family continues to visit each Monday morning engaging our residents with games, crafts, bingo, and the most importantly their on-going friendship. The residents picnicked with them on Memorial Day as well.
Kirby, a goldendoodle certified Pet Therapy dog, is our newest neighbor from Holt. He and his owner; Sarah Miller Schaffer, visit every Monday evening for a belly r u b a n d t r i c k s . (belly rub is for Kirby!)
