Contrary to popular belief, bats are not rodents, are not blind and the chances of

transmitting rabies are the same as those of a dog. Bats are mammals and have a

skeleton similar to the human one. lthough bats have good vision, they use a system

named echolocation to move in the dark, !hich consists in making sounds from their

mouths that bounce off ob"ects.There are about #,$$$ species of bat, each one !ith a particular diet. %or seventy percent

of bats, the diet is insects. &ther types of bats survive on flo!ers, fruit or small animals

and one species of bat feed on the blood of large mammals. 'ven though bats play a key

role in the functioning of ecosystems, most of them do not live past early life because of

human trespass. (n order to control vampires bat populations, farmers have killed

thousands of fruit)and insect)eating bats as !ell.

Bats shouldn*t be considered infamous because of not being a lovable sort of animal, as

they are valuable.
