LASER COMPETENCE CERTIFICATION
Dear Colleagues / Participants,
On behalf of the organizing committee, it is a great privilege to invite you to participate in the Laser Competence Certification Course on 2016 May 27 to 31 to be held at Sharjah University Clinical and Surgical Training Center.
Our collaborators, the Scientific Committee of the Laser and Health Academy are invited for this laser training course, a distinctive array of international and local experts in the field of aesthetic medicine & laser practice, to share with you, during 5 days of concentrated and focused information in their specialty.
The program is structured to provide relevant laser physics, clinical information and skills as well as laser safety. It is intended for practicing dermatologist, general practitioners, laser specialist, registered nurses, aestheticiansand cosmeticians.
The program contents are disseminated via lectures, hands-on practical workshops to acquire laser skillsand actual clinical demonstrations using different laser treatments on a wide selection of patients. Each segment of the course is followed by a multiple choice examination to ascertain knowledge acquisition. You will also be provided with an evaluation form for each segment and it is mandatory to fill, so as wereceive your feedback and input.
This course is fully accredited by the University of Sharjah UAE and the Laser and Health Academy in Europe.
It is in line with the forthcoming guidelines by Health Authorities for regulation of laser practice that will specify exactly who can perform laser surgery and treatments, the requirements of the facility and the minimum training requirements for those operating the laser machinery.

General Outline of Courses
Course Objectives
SULTARC Laser Training Courses are based on eligibility standards and standardized testing certifying the completion of the following requirements: Section 1: Didactic and supervised hands-on workshopsA. Knowledge ModulesBasic Sciences• Fundamentals of Laser/IPL physics• Laser/IPL tissue interactions (hair-skin-light interrelationship)• Understanding laser safety in practiceB. Clinical Lectures• Overview anatomy & physiology of the skin and hair• Cosmecuticals for skin care• Androgenic skin & hair disorders (alopecia/hirsutism/acne)• Fitzpatrick skin classification• Pre and post Laser/IPL management of skin & hair • Patient orientation• Documentation and filingC. Equipment Handling• Different types and Quality of Laser/IPL Equipment• Principles of parameter setting (wavelength, pulse durations, spot size & frequency)• Safe equipment handling• Proper Equipment Maintenance and Handling• The importance and types of cooling
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:• Describe the anatomy, histology and pathophysiology of the skin & hair in relation to dermatological laser procedures.• Explain conceptually how laser work, and explain the different characteristics & types of lasers.• Compare laser and intense pulsed light hair removal techniques to other methods of hair removal• Exhibit an understanding of basic laser biophysics and laser-tissue interactions as it relates to dermatological laser and lights source procedures.• Describe different types of laser/tissue interaction and explain the importance of thermal confinement to aesthetic outcome.• Discuss the concept of selective PhotoThermolysis• Explain the relationship of laser pulse lengths to selective PhotoThermolysis and Thermal Relaxation Times• Discuss pertinent energy, optical and fiber concepts that are applicable to medical laser use.• Discuss laser safety precautions for patient and personnel that include eye safety and regulatory safety equipment, including administrative and procedural control as recommended by ANSI.• Describe the types of hazards which laser present to personnel and patients.• Describe patient selections, safety considerations, anesthetic options, and management of complications, post-operative care and procedural techniques for each procedure discussed, to include laser hair removal, pigmented and vascular lesion removal, treatment of acne, skin rejuvenation and skin resurfacing.• Describe simple management procedures with cosmeceuticals and topical application in relation to laser therapy.• Discuss management of side effects of lasers and light based treatments.
