Air BnB’s in Sully Station II

Recently, there have been some questions and/or complaints regarding Air

BnB’s in Sully Station II. For any residents considering running an Air BnB

in the Community; Please be aware that the Sully Station II Governing

Documents have rules regarding leasing your unit. The Declaration states

that a written lease is required for an initial term of at least 12 months in

length and the unit can only be rented by a single family. Furthermore,

according to Fairfax County

Zoning, operating an Air BnB

out of townhome would be a

violation of the zoning code.

For additional information or

questions, please feel free to

contact the onsite office at

7 Trick-or-Treating Safety Tips

BY READER'S DIGEST EDITORS https://www.rd.com/advice/parenting/7-trick-or-treating-safety-tips/

For young children, Halloween night is one of the

best of the year. But trick-or-treating can be

dangerous if kids and parents aren’t careful. Take a

look at some vital trick-or-treating tips before you

accompany your child.

1. Plan a route in advance.

Trick-or-treating could take you several streets

away from your house, which can cause sore legs and a bit of frustration. Avoid long paths

by mapping out a route before leaving the house. Stick to paths that you and your child are

familiar with to avoid getting lost.

2. Wear comfy shoes.

Make sure you and your children are in

comfortable, well-fitting shoes. Girls in dresses

should avoid heels, and all shoelaces should be

double-tied to avoid tripping in the dark.

3. Stay well-lit.

Apply reflective tape to your child’s costume to ensure they

are seen by drivers on the road. Also, carry a flashlight with

you to keep your child’s path lit at all times.

4. Make sure all costumes are

short.

Long costumes that drag on the ground can be dangerous,

especially at night. After purchasing your child’s costume,

make sure it’s an appropriate length, and hem anything

that’s too long to avoid tripping.

5. Avoid masks.

Masks can make it difficult for your child to see or breathe. If

possible, skip the mask altogether and use non-toxic make-

up to complete the costume instead.

6. Use flexible props.

Try to avoid costumes that have weapons as accessories. But if

your child’s costume won’t be complete without a weapon, make

sure it is rubber or plastic. Choose a prop that won’t cause injury to

your child or their friends.

7. Check your child’s candy.

When sorting through candy at the end of the night, be sure to throw away any candy that is

not in its original wrapper, or looks as though it has been opened.

Friends,

If you have taken a hike in your favorite park recently we’re sure you have noticed the leaves starting to fall and unfortunately, trash in our streams. This means it’s time for our bi-annual watershed cleanup as the Cub Run Stream Valley Park Volunteer Team is partnering with the Cub Run Rec Center and Ocean Conservancy to make a difference in our community. The cleanup will be on Saturday, October 14th from 9:00-11:30 AM. See our flier for meetup locations and please take a few hours out of a weekend to meet some great people and explore your park.

Additionally, several events have been organized to bring together residents from surrounding communities so they can learn, share, and enjoy the Cub Run ecosystem. They are as follows: Family Friendly Cub Run Nature Hike - Saturday, October 7th 10:00-11:30 AM – Please RSVP at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/cub-run-stream-valley-park-nature-hike-tickets-37563948782 Cub Run Park Photography Expedition - Saturday, October 21st 9:00-11:00 AM - Please RSVP at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/cub-run-park-photography-expedition-with-el-taouil-tickets-38154805049

To connect with each other and share ideas, we will meet quarterly with the next

meeting at the Centreville Library Meeting Room 1&2 from 7:30-8:30 PM on Thursday,

October 5th. Doors open at 7 if you wish to socialize. Everyone interested in supporting Cub

Run Park is welcome to attend.

You can also check out our Cub

Run PVT Facebook page to get

more details on cleanups, share

your photos, and stay connected.

We are just getting started so

come join us, make an impact,

It’s officially “Yard Waste” season!

First, let's define the FULL list of all accepted yard debris items accepted at your curb.

Leaves

Grass clippings

Tree limbs and brush (bundled and tied)

Christmas Trees

Pumpkins

Proper Preparation for Pick-Up

Loose in a Container The most preferred method of collecting your yard clippings, leaves, and small branches is loose in a container (s) that can be lifted and dumped into our truck. Yard debris that is collected in plastic bags must be broken open before the composting process can begin, and for that reason, we recommend that you simply collect it in a "yard debris" labeled reusable container. (Did we mention that you'll be saving on all of those yard debris collection bags by investing in a few sturdy compost collection containers?)

Compostable Plastic Bags In certain locations, another accepted method of collection is the use of plastic bags that are certified compostable. These can be purchased at most home improvement stores.

Brown Paper Collection Bags Similar to a compostable plastic bag, a brown paper collection bag, which can also be bought at a local home improvement store, will break down organically with the collected yard debris.

Bundling Methods

In order for us to collect all of the homes on any given route, tree limbs and brush must be no longer than 4 feet in length and 3 inches thick in diameter. These items must be tied with rope or twine so that one man may easily pick-up. American Disposal

Services will collect a maximum of 10 bags of grass clippings and or leaves, and 10 bundles of brush per pick-up. (There will be an extra charge for additional removal of larger amounts of yard debris that must be scheduled in advance through our customer service center.)

Page 14: SULLY II TIMESsully2.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Sully-II-Times-Oct...Carpeting, Hardwood Floors, Wood Repair, Carpentry, Crown Molding, Chair Railing, Drywall & Power Washing.

Try Grasscycling! Grasscycling is the "green" way to keep your lawn beautiful and healthy, and entails leaving the grassclippings ON your lawn after you mow, instead of bagging them.

When clippings stay on the lawn they release important nutrients into the soil, act as mulch and promote natural aeration by earthworms. Clippings decompose and feed the soil the nutrients it needs.

Grasscycling and leaving the clippings on the ground also slows waterloss and reduces the needs for fertilization.

Just remember to cut the grass only when it’s dry and to always check to make sure your mower blades are sharp before you start you implement this technique.

Things to Remember

Items that are either bagged OR bundled should not exceed 50 lbs.

Bundles should not exceed arm length. If you cannot wrap your arms around the bundle limbs, break it down into multiple bundles.

The following items are not acceptable for yard debris collection: mulch, dirt, rock, shrubs,

trees, tree stumps, and sod

October is

Breast Cancer Awareness Month Breast cancer is the second most common kind of cancer in women. About 1 in 8 women born today

in the United States will get breast cancer at some point.

The good news is that most women can survive breast cancer if it’s found and treated early. A

mammogram – the screening test for breast cancer – can help find breast cancer early when it’s

easier to treat.

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a chance to raise awareness about the importance of

early detection of breast cancer. Make a difference! Spread the word about mammograms and

encourage communities, organizations, families, and individuals to get involved.

How can National Breast Cancer Awareness Month make a difference? We can use this opportunity to spread the word about steps women can take to detect breast cancer early.

Here are just a few ideas:

Ask doctors and nurses to speak to women about the importance of getting screened for breast cancer.

Encourage women ages 40 to 49 to talk with their doctors about when to start getting mammograms.

Organize an event to talk with women ages 50 to 74 in your community about getting mammograms every 2 years.

October Symbols

October's birthstones are the tourmaline and opal.

Its birth flower is the calendula.

The zodiac signs for this month are Libra and Scorpio.
