IVIV Suggestions on KANZ CollaborationSuggestions on KANZ Collaboration

23

Page 24: Suk-Ho Bang, KISDI, Green IT and Smart City Initiatives of Korea

Policy Lessons

1Green IT, as a kernel of green growth

- Green IT is a new growth engine in Korea

Not a government driven land development, An effort to improve the quality of life driven by knowledge-based cooperation

- Economic Development Strategy, not Environmental One

2

Sustainable efforts should be made not only from public side, but also from private side

- Smart City is more than a simple combination of individual services

3

4Regulatory easing as an incentive for private participation

Is mandatory

Smart City collaboration between KANZ

25

25

Australia is working on ‘Smart Grid, Smart City' project since 2009 which is smart city development project focused on Smart grid

In 2010, Korea and Australia signed on smart grid collaboration MOU

KANZ Governments agreed on enhanced relationship in IT sector through five previous KANZ broadband summits

Backgrounds

For further and practical collaboration among KANZ, it is proposed to organize expert meetings for the smart city issues, which will be developed within joint working groups

Government officials, researchers and other stake holders will join the working groups

Page 26: Suk-Ho Bang, KISDI, Green IT and Smart City Initiatives of Korea

Beyond Smart Grid: March up to the Smart City

26

Status Direction

26

The number of smart devices in use in KANZ has been increased dramatically

People in KANZ are in need of betterconnected and more energy efficient life for green growth

A policy framework for smart technologies is es-sential to promote sustainable development in KANZ economies

Establishment of KANZ joint working groups for research and study on principal sectors of smart city such as u-health, u-transport, smart cards, etc.

Mandate the joint working groups to re-port in next KANZ summit

Green IT can be a new growth engine for KANZ
