The Eliza Furnace segment links to Downtown Pittsburgh while the South Side segment offers convenient access to the popular Carson Street business district. The Downtown business district, Cultural District, Point State Park, and Strip District are easily accessed by the trail. Cross river connections via the Smithfield Street and Ft. Duquesne Bridges make getting to urban attractions on the North Shore, Station Square, and the South Side convenient.

F or over 20 years, Friends of the Riverfront has been a
pioneering organization, working to protect and restore
access to the Pittsburgh region’s rivers and riverfronts. We
have been involved in creating over 24 miles of Three Rivers
Heritage Trail and a Three Rivers Water Trail for recreational
cyclists, hikers, rollerbladers, paddlers, and commuters.
Through continued collaboration with community partners,
government officials, and a diverse volunteer base, our
rivers and riverfronts have been transformed from industrial
wastelands to international examples of environmental renewal.

Friends of the Riverfront provides this Map & Guide free of charge so that everyone can take advantage of the Three Rivers Heritage Trail and adjacent amenities.

What we do: The Three Rivers Heritage Trail offers a nearly complete public route on both sides of all three rivers in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County. Over 30 miles of additional trail are in planning or development phases. The Three Rivers Heritage Trail also connects to many regional trails and trail networks like the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP), the developing Erie-to-Pittsburgh Trail, and the Pittsburgh to Harrisburg Main Line Canal Greenway.

The Three Rivers Heritage Trail is an expansive 24-mile urban riverfront trail system along both sides of all three rivers in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County. The trail provides opportunities for recreation and commuting for both residents and visitors to the region, and allows access to dense urban areas, popular shopping and entertainment districts, and green space.
