What is a suffix? Also known as a postfix or an ending.

A suffix is an affix which is placed after the stem of the word.

An affix that follows the element to which it is added

An addition to the end of a word.

Can be used as either a noun or verb.

-dipsia

This suffix is used when referring to thirst.

Excessive and constant thirst occasioned by disease.

Condition of thirst.

This is used as an uncountable noun, meaning a noun that cannot be used freely with numbers or indefinite articles, therefore it takes no plural form

Examples: Polydipsia – excessive thirst.

Hydroadipsia – the absence of thirst for water.

Oligodipsia – abnormal absence of thirst.

-prandial: Prandial comes from the Latin "prandium" which

means a late breakfast or lunch.

"Prandium" was derived in turn from the Greek "pro-", before + "endios", midday.

Prandial refers to any meal –breakfast, lunch, supper or a snack.

Of or relating to a meal.

Examples:

Postprandial: after a meal has

been eating

Prandial pain: is pain while

eating.

Preprandial: before a meal is

eaten.
