Wednesday October 30, 2019 Sues News What a night of celebration and great fun we had on Saturday with nearly 180 community members entering into the masquerade spirit! The atmosphere walking into the yacht club which had the stylish table decorations along with the spectacular views of the bay resulted in a perfect setting. Many chose to wear very ornate masks, a few had a face painter apply henna which looked particularly impressive, others settled on a simple design, but everyone embraced the challenge of wearing masks. The evening was carefully planned and organised by Sal Stewart and Melinda Pordage who formed a formidable team to ensure all boxes were ticked. As the evening progressed, it was obvious that many were keen to enter the dance floor where we had some very energetic and interesting dance moves on show. The live auction prizes were presented to: Janey Kuzma - Luxury Weekend Getaway to the RACV Cape Schanck Resort with a luxurious BMW car to drive Andrew Fix - coaching with Australian Cricketer Will Pucovski. Amy Atchison and Kate Garlick Private Tour of The Block 2019 for 6 people. I am sincerely grateful for the support and generosity of spirit provided by: Sal Stewart and Melinda Pordage for their excellent planning, preparation and organisation. Sals extensive event management experience combined with Melindas creative flair resulted in another highly successful event where community connectedness and fundraising were winners. This event generated over $12,000 in profit, all of which will go towards to the redevelopment of our adventure playground along Hampton Street. Annie McLachlan who provided wonderful assistance to Melinda and we hope might take over the creative reins for the future Shruti Goyal, for her remarkable wrapping skills for the prizes Jane Radman for her impressive artwork Will Pucovski ex HPS student and school captain, Australian Cricketer Nicole Jacobs ex HPS parent and manager of Nicole Jacobs Property BMW Brighton, Stewart Insurance Group and S. Edwards Family Robin Parker from Marshall White, an ex -parent who had 3 boys attend HPS, auctioneer for the evening and Marshall White were the major sponsor for the Masquerade Ball. The extensive list of people and agencies (shown later in the newsletter) that donated a silent auction item.

I hope that all who attended enjoyed the evening. Sally Stewart has been a parent at Hampton for the last 13 years and 2019 is her final year with her daughter, Bianca in Grade 6. During this time, Sally has been an enthusiastic and very active community member supporting, encouraging, suggesting and organising fundraising and social events with great success, playing a pivotal role with the Parents’ Association, being a very active parent and encouraging others to become involved in school life. She has been an outstanding member and contributor to our community. She has also consistently supported other charities and inspired children and community members to raise funds for the disadvantaged, underprivileged and those with serious illness. Our school and community has been the richer for her presence, enthusiasm and passion for life. Cup Eve and Melbourne Cup Day Public Holiday We find that many families plan for an extended weekend and take the Monday prior to Cup Day to enjoy a short break away. I ask that any families who plan for their children to be absent on Monday 4 November to please note this absence on Compass in advance. This will assist with our organisation. The school will operate as usual on the Monday.

Student Voice and Agency We had our Grade 6 students present their learning on an inquiry unit to the School Council at the October meeting recently. I extend congratulations to the following students who, working in collaborative groups, designed and constructed energy efficient housing and then described the techniques and strategies employed and justified these to the parents and councillors: Eva Gordon, Kat Johnson, Haley Nhean, Melody Bowen from 6A; James Morton, Lachie Gee, Marcus Holdsworth, Milo Corah from 6B; Loa Hostein, Nadia Stockwell, Kitty Canwell, Patrick Hill, Sean Lawson, Tilly Parra from 6C. The children displayed energy and enthusiasm for ensuring their houses were adhering to high quality standards with sustainable practice. 2020 Prep Transition Today we held the third transition session for our prep children starting school in 2020. The teachers have already visited a couple of kindergartens and will visit the remaining ones over the next month. It is very useful to observe the children in a familiar setting ie their current kindergarten where they are comfortable and surrounded by friends and familiar faces. This provides us with additional knowledge of the children and their social and emotional needs. We have three more transition sessions for our 2020 preps in November. We closely observe all the new children during the transition sessions, we note friendships, any children who show a little unsureness and those who show confidence. We do try to ensure that every child has a friend, or someone familiar either from kindergarten or beyond when placing children into their 2020 class. Assembly Well done to FB, who led the singing of the National Anthem on Friday. Congratulations go to Aloysius Beare in 3C for playing ‘Sonatina’ on piano. Aloysius is a very talented musician who enjoys a challenge, his performance was very impressive indeed. Academic Excellence Congratulations go to the following students who received academic excellence awards at assembly this week. Sophie Reith in 2A for displaying a curious and motivated approach to her work; this

has resulted in commendable achievement in critical and creative thinking, personal and emotional social capability and in all areas of literacy.

Term 4 Curriculum Day I remind all parents that the Term 4 Curriculum Day will be conducted on Friday 13 December, there will be no school for the children on this day. However, Team Kids will be operating childcare on this day. Bookings must be made through Team Kids. Last Day of the School Year: Friday 20 December The last day of the school year is Friday 20 December; school will conclude at 1.30pm. Childcare is available from 1.30pm, again, parents must make a booking with Team Kids. Sue Knight Principal
