As a result of the war, 2 million Sudanese people have died since 1938, 4.4 million have been separated from their homes, and only 11% have been able to leave their country. The war has been characterized by brutality, abductions, torture and rape committed by both sides 3.2 million Sudanese are facing serious food and water shortages. There are many Sudanese in refugee camps in Kenya and Egypt.

Sudan is the biggest country in Africa with a population of 34.5 million people. Sudan is in Northern Afric, bordered by Egypt in the North. Northern Sudan is desert while the South is more tropical. In 1956 Sudan gained independence from England and Egypt and it has been plagued by civil war between North and South and between competing southern tribes (Dinka and Nuer)
