description

“We want to win every game we play at every level and we want to be right on every single player decision we make. We know it’s not going to happen, because there is too much uncertainty…..too much we cannot control. That said we can control the process.” Read our latest investment presentation.

Introduction

Successful investing is about control. It is about the process and not the outcome:

Find out what works

Find out how to implement it

Implement diligently and rigorously

Know that it will work but not all the time

“We want to win every game we play at every level and we want to be right on every single player decision we make. We know it’s not going to happen, because there is too much uncertainty…..too much we cannot control. That said we can control the process.”

So how can we be in control?

Real Control

Consider a golfer putting to win the open championship:

100% concentrated on the process (logic)

0% concentrated on outcome (emotional)

Successful investing is about focusing on the process….

Real Control

When you enter a casino, the house has the edge

As long as the game is played consistently to the same rules the casino will win

Not on every deal or every spin of the roulette wheel but it’s the process that is key

The house has the edge, maintain that process consistently and the maths and averages take care of the outcome

Real Control

So what can we control:

OURSELVES AND OUR PROCESS FOR TAKING ACTIONS

WE CANNOT CONTROL OUTCOMES (like a casino cannot control outcomes)

BUT

We know that by not worrying about outcomes but concentrating on process great outcomes are made far more likely
