Expert Witness
Matt Anwyl joined Berrys in 1988 as part of the business consultancy team based in the Kettering office, after completing a degree in Agricultural Business Management.
He moved to the Shrewsbury office and qualified as a surveyor in 1992, also qualifying as a RICS Rural Arbitrator in 2009. Matt was appointed Berrys Managing Partner in 2008 and fully acknowledges how essential he found the training, support and mentoring that the business and his colleagues have provided him with over the years.
“Having been the beneficiary of and seeing first-hand the enormous value of both formal training and learning on the job, I am a real advocate for developing and nurturing those within our team. Generally this takes the form of equipping individuals through training, shadowing and mentoring to provide the highest level of specialist advice to our clients, but equally important is the development of management skills and encouragement of individuals to become involved in the growth and development of the business as their own careers progress.”

Pathways
Graduate SchemeWe have an outstanding pass rate for our candidates taking the RICS, APC
exams and RTPI qualification.
Our structured training agreement is delivered by qualified and
experienced colleagues in the commercial, residential and rural
sectors who mentor each candidate individually.
They support them in developing their knowledge and skill base as well as
preparing for their professional competence by undertaking mock
exams and reviewing their submission documents.
At Berrys we have experienced colleagues who are able to support you in developing your career within the residential, rural and commercial industries. There are a variety of routes within which you can progress with your career and which enable you to make knowledgeable and informed
career choices.
ApprenticeshipWe are committed to supporting apprenticeships within
a number of sectors to offer a non-university entry pathway into property careers. We can offer pathways for aspiring chartered surveyors at a number of our
offices, working alongside local universities.
12-Month PlacementEach year we provide 12-month placement opportunities where students are able to build up their APC diary by
experiencing a range of activities and projects and dealing with a diverse range of clients. Our placements are an ideal way to establish a network within Berrys and gain
in-depth exposure to a diverse range of work.
Start with Berrys
• Surveyors register/enrol with RICS
• Planners register with RTPI
• Be assigned a supervisor and counsellor
• Be given a structured training programme and comprehensive outline of the following 2 years
• Plan a programme of meeting and milestone dates
• Complete structured training agreement
• Start recording diary, log book and continued professional development
• Route 2: If planners haven’t already completed an RTPI accredited degree, start part time Masters (2 years)
Induction Day
Our corporate induction day offers the opportunity to learn more about the objectives and strategies of the firm, to hear more and ask questions about our policies and procedures, and provides a good opportunity to network with those from other offices as well as put some faces to names.
The day consists of a variety of presentations and round table sessions, with plenty of time for socialising.

Supervisor/Mentor & Counsellor Meeting

• Surveyors review competencies
• Surveyors sign off agreed level of competence and begin identifying suitable topics for case study
• Route 1: Planners with an RTPI accredited degree apply for licentiate and start 12 month log book
• Route 2: Planners studying part time Masters complete Year 1
At Berrys we are proud of all our successful candidates who have achieved RTPI and RICS membership. We ensure that all graduates receive strong and continued support throughout the process.
We have designated counsellors and supervisors to ensure that continuity is provided to all graduates along with designated mentors offering additional support.
We offer monthly CPD opportunities and formal APC training enabling graduates to benefit from the knowledge and expertise within our business.
Our graduates understand that this is their qualification and, with our structured training programme, can reap the rewards of a successful qualification.
It is important to mention there are two pathways that planners can take to become qualified, depending on the qualification they already have. If graduates have completed an RTPI accredited degree they would follow Route 1. If they are completing a part time Masters with Berrys they would follow Route 2. All planners will need at least two years experience before applying for their APC, one of which must be post-qualification as a licentiate.
