Hello !
I hope this email finds you all wellWelcome to Newsletter No. 10 !!
These last few years I believe have been very productive and fruitful on numerable art fronts includingexhibiting, gallery direction, shortlisted art prizes and awards and some unexpected initiatives.I have been very fortunate during this time to have had the opportunity to explore other genres; sculptureand photography, and both appear to be revealing exciting pathways that are complementing my painting….it is very exciting, new journeys !Below are some of the highlights that bring focus areas together and also future events that I hope will beof interest and that you may like to attend.
All the very bestRebecca

THE LESTER PRIZE
'Lang Ink Becomes You' is a mixed media on canvas work and a finalist in the The Lester Prize 2019.
This work captures my youngest son Lang focusing on his tattoos with an onus on floral imagery. Whether
in jest or not he has suggested my own ongoing fascination with flowers has manifested itself in his
process of selecting body adornment. Tattoos have become an ongoing conversation in our household,
not just of the personal nature but the general public perception of what may be deemed ‘different’ or to
some indecipherable making it foreign. The interpretation of his physical appearance by some does not
always fall in line with his true gentle and accommodating nature. This duality and conclusions drawn I
find both confusing and sometimes unsettling.
I would like to invite you to the opening night of The Lester Prize at the Art Gallery of Western Australia on
the 8th of November. I will also be hosting an Artist Workshop titled 'Stippling like Crazy' on the 9th of
November from 10am for approximately 2 hours at the Art Gallery of Western Australia.
The Lester Prize was formerly known as The Black Swan Prize for Portraiture, one of the country’s richest
prizes for portraiture. It has now been renamed The Lester Prize in honour of the award’s leading patron,
Richard Lester. Forty finalists from across Australia have been selected from over 400 entrants for this
year's The Lester Prize. Amongst this year's finalists, 15 were WA artists, 10 were from VIC, 9 from NSW,
with the remaining 6 from QLD, TAS and the ACT. Subjects of the works range from self-portraits to
people who have played a significant part in the artists' lives.

STUDIO VISITS
Last Monday I absconded the studio space to visit some other artists!
I headed to the Blue Mountains to first see artist and friend Tracy Dods at her amazing property with
chickens, dogs and home grown asparagus. It was great to see Tracy and her wonderful studio space, to
see works in progress and what she has coming up next! I spent the rest of the day exploring the ins and
outs of the Blue Mountains as well as touching base with Keith Rowe, Kayo Yokoyama and Ben Tankard.
