DREW UNIVERSITY presentsLETTER fRom ThE ARTISTIc DIREcToRS
Dear Friends,
We are thrilled to offer another season of fascinating programs performed by the superb artists of the Chamber Music Society to audiences at Drew University. In the three concerts of the 2012-13 season, listeners will be transported through centuries of music, from the hustle and bustle of late-18th-century Vienna, where the young upstart Beethoven was just beginning to make his mark, to reflections of our current age, represented by a touching and personal work from Australian composer Brett Dean. The season also features a pair of Schubert’s greatest string quartets, including the beloved “Death and the Maiden” quartet, as well as an investigation of the rich and colorful sonorities afforded by winds and piano. We hope you will join us for the journey.
Best wishes,
David Finckel Wu Han

Ludwig van Beethoven burst onto the musical scene in Vienna in 1795 at the ripe age of 25, using his Opus 1 Piano Trios as his calling card. He thrilled audiences with virtuosity and inventiveness. Six years later, his newly minted Serenade and Quintet wowed listeners even without the help of the keyboard.
