Let me start with India, I always think why are we like this when it comes to littering? I literally have have sleepless night think about it.Garbage is everywhere, literally everywhere, and I don’t think anyone can do anything about the mentality of people, I have tried. We can send rocket to mars but we cant fix this problem. I stay in IITB, but people are still half educated here, no one cares about the environment and when you ask them to pick up whatever they have thrown they just walk away. And IITB students love to throw litter in drains just the way other people do.So its not possible to ask someone to pick up something they have thrown in drain because people in India don’t like to be told things.So I thought why not fix the problem understanding Indian psychology by designing something which will reduce human effort and will be quiet efficient and wont even hurt anyone’s ego because we live in society which doesn’t like to be told things.

About my design.

I have deigned shield for drains and for the garbage which is thrown outside. As I have said before people tend to throw litter in the drains and its quiet hard for the workers to clean. So the idea behind shield is to reduce man force.The road shield is just a sheet which is put beforehand and when it is full of garbage the only thing we need to do is gather the shield and then throw the garbage which is in it in the litterbin or the garbage truck and put the shield back on the road .The drain shield works the same way but it has hooks which can be attached to the upper part of the drain or they can even be suspended in case of wet drains so that the water can flow below the shield and the litter will stay on the shield.• The shield will be made up of material which no

one wants• can last through out weather• Can sustain any type of litter • And can actually improve the present condition.

I think my submission is unique because I don’t think anyone must have thought about it and plus I don’t think anyone really cares about the situation, indeed it’s a huge challenge for all of us. ‘’It’s my problem, why should I do it’’ this what people usually think but they forget the fact that if we wont do it, no one else will.People are designing wonderful things but the fact is that we don’t even need most of the things. Why not design which we desperately need? Which can make a difference in the condition of the country? Why send rocket to mars spending millions when we cant even afford dustbins or keep our surrounding clean?

How is your submission unique?

The people around me and TED talks. People around me are highly educated but they lack discipline. What's the use of that education when you don’t even know where to throw litter?
