I want to take the listener on a musical journey with Beethoven – through all his challenges and triumphs.” Stewart Goodyear NEW YORK, NY – With the September 2012 release of Beethoven: The Complete Piano Sonatas on Marquis, Canadian pianist Stewart Goodyear embarked on a singular journey to share his interpretation of these Sonatas – considered to be the greatest works of the piano repertoire – both on record and on stage. On Saturday, June 22, 2013, Goodyear will present the complete Beethoven Piano Sonatas -- in the order they were composed -- in an all-day concert at the McCarter Theater in Princeton, NJ. Comprised of 103 movements (and over 10 hours of music), this is an unprecedented challenge of musical skill and physical endurance. Audiences may attend one, two, or all three programs. Each concert will have one intermission, with breaks for lunch and dinner. Goodyear strives to bring new meaning and life to this music. “I want to take the listener on a musical journey with Beethoven,” he says, “through all his challenges and triumphs.” In June of 2012, Goodyear presented the complete Sonatas in concert at Koerner Hall during Toronto’s Luminato Festival, inciting no small amount of controversy, but ultimately dazzling both critics and audiences. Following the Princeton engagement, Stewart will perform the complete Sonatas at the Winspear Opera House in Dallas on September 8 and at the Mondavi Center in Davis, CA on October 6th. “From the time I first heard them, I saw all the sonatas as a set, a retrospective of Beethoven's art and his life,” remarks Goodyear. He recognizes Beethoven’s music as prime motivation for his career: “Listening to the music of Beethoven is one of my only remaining memories of early childhood. From this music, I recognized that the human spirit and condition is vast and complex, yet clear, direct, and indestructible. As I reached adulthood, my understanding of this music grew deeper and more intense. The Beethoven piano sonatas are what compelled me to become a pianist.” Goodyear recently began writing about the sonatas one by one on a "Sonatathon" F acebook group , giving audiences a unique insight into the works and his interpretations of them in advance of the performance.
