VET Subject Guide

Students enrolling in any Vocational Education and Training qualifications must apply for a Unique Student Identifier (USI) as outlined on the Enrolment Agreement Form and the Student Handbook.

The school RTO is committed to completing the outlined training and assessment once students have started study in their chosen qualifications or courses from the course start date (including delivery by a third party on the school RTOs behalf).

Students who enter the course after the start date will have a negotiated package of units that will lead to a statement of attainment.

In the event that the school RTO is unable to complete delivery of training, the school RTO will, if possible, arrange for agreed training and assessment to be completed through another RTO (fees may be incurred). Prior to the transfer to another RTO, affected students will be formally notified of the arrangements, and an agreement to those arrangements, including any refund of fees, will be obtained. If transfer is not possible, the RTO will gain a written agreement for a subject/course transfer from the student and parent.

The school has a number of policies associated with the delivery of VET including but not limited to “Complaints and Appeals”, “Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)”, which can be found on the school website.

BSB20115 Certificate II in Business Qualification Description This qualification reflects the role of individuals in a variety of junior administrative positions who perform a range of mainly routine tasks using limited practical skills and fundamental operational knowledge in a defined context. Individuals in these roles generally work under direct supervision. Estimated completion time is 12 months and training/assessment is all on our site with face to face delivery. Work placement is not required, however it is encouraged.

CPC 10111 Certificate I in Construction Description This qualification provides an introduction to the construction industry, its culture, occupations, job roles and workplace expectations. The units of competency cover essential work health and safety requirements, the industrial and work organisation structure, communication skills, work planning, and basic use of tools and materials. The qualification is built around a basic construction project unit that integrates the skills and embeds the facets of employability skills in context. Estimated completion time is 24 months and training/assessment is all on our site with face to face delivery. A substantial period of work placement is recommended to ensure the unit outcomes are met. The qualification is suited to VET in Schools programs or learners with no previous connection to the construction industry or relevant employment history. The unit CPCCOHS1001A Work Safely in the Construction Industry is designed to meet OHS regulatory authority requirements for OHS induction and must be achieved before access to any building and construction work site. The construction industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or very closely simulated workplace environment and this qualification requires all units of competency to be delivered in this context. Pathways Information: There are no specific job outcomes to this qualification, but the skills achieved will assist in successfully undertaking a Certificate II pre-vocational program or job outcome qualification, or will facilitate entry into an Australian Apprenticeship. MSL20118 Certificate II in Sampling and Measurement Description This qualification covers the skills and knowledge required to perform a range of sampling and measurement as part of laboratory, production or field operations in the construction, manufacturing, resources and environmental industry sectors. Estimated completion time is 24 months and training/assessment is all on our site using face to face delivery. Work placement is not required however it is encouraged. Job roles /employment outcomes The Certificate II in Sampling and Measurement offers entry level training for sampling and measurement skills applied across a range of industries. Employment outcomes targeted by this qualification include samplers and testers, production personnel, plant operators, production operators, field assistants, drivers, sample couriers, and many others. Samplers and testers conduct limited sampling and testing as part of their duties in their particular industry. In some industry sectors (for example, mineral assay) this work forms a whole job role. They apply a restricted range of skills and operational knowledge to perform these tasks and do not generally work inside a laboratory. They:

• follow set procedures to sample raw materials and products • may package, label, store and transport samples • use simple equipment (hydrometers, thermometers and pH meters) to make measurements and perform basic tests that take a

short time and involve a narrow range of variables and easily recognised control limits • may make visual inspection of products and packaging.

Examples of the work of sampler/testers are given below.

• A milk tanker driver conducts aseptic sampling of milk before loading and then conveys the samples to the laboratory. • An operator in a quarry may take samples from stockpiles and conveyors and conduct simple tests on different grades of aggregates. • A field officer working in environmental monitoring may visit a catchment area to collect water samples • Sampler/testers take air samples for testing for microbial monitoring of air conditioning or cooling towers.

Application This qualification is typically used to prepare new employees or develop the skills of existing workers within the construction, manufacturing, resources and environmental industry sectors. Training programs for this qualification are suitable to be undertaken as part of a formal training contract with an employer under an Australian Traineeship or Apprenticeship arrangement. Pathways Information: Pathways into the qualification This qualification may be accessed by direct entry. Credit for this qualification may include units contained within relevant skill sets. Pathways from the qualification Further training pathways from this qualification include the MSL30109 Certificate III in Laboratory Skills or MSA30208 Certificate III in Manufacturing Technology (Laboratory Operations Stream). Licensing/Regulatory Information: There are no specific licences that relate to this qualification. They will be required to face challenges by using their initiative and problem solving skills, to find solutions. The students will be expected to plan and organise work activities to ensure timely completion of set tasks. A variety of technologies will be used to record, analyse and communicate data. Fees: Free Expenses: It is anticipated that students will attend 1 – 2 excursions each year with a cost of approximately $25 per year.

SIS20213 Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation Description This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in performing core skills in outdoor recreation environments and assisting with the conduct of a range of outdoor activities. Work may be undertaken as part of a team and would be performed under supervision. Work would be undertaken in field locations such as camps or in indoor recreation centres or facilities, in differing environments such as water-based, dry land and mountainous terrains, using a diverse range of equipment. Estimated completion time is 48 months and training/assessment is on our site and at a number of external sites described above using face to face delivery. Work placement is not required, however it is encouraged. The following are indicative job roles for this qualification:

• outdoor activity assistant • outdoor participant.

Pathways Information: This qualification is suitable for an Australian Apprenticeship pathway. Licensing/Regulatory Information: Students entering this course are required to apply for and hold a “Blue Card”. Entry Requirements: There are no entry requirements for this qualification. To achieve this qualification, you must demonstrate competency in: 15 units of competency: 5 core units and 10 elective units (one additional unit is also completed)

SIT20216 Certificate II in Hospitality Description This qualification reflects the role of individuals who use a defined and limited range of hospitality operational skills. They are involved in mainly routine and repetitive tasks using practical skills and basic industry knowledge. They work under direct supervision. This qualification is suitable for VET in Schools (VETiS) delivery and for an Australian Apprenticeship pathway. Estimated completion time is 12 months provided students have completed Certificate I in Hospitality prior to entry. Training/assessment is conducted primarily on site however; a minimum of 12 complete service periods (shifts) is required. These shifts may be out of normal school hours e.g. events and functions or require work placement in the hospitality industry. Job roles This qualification provides a pathway to work in various hospitality settings, such as restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafes and coffee shops. Possible job titles include:

Reasons to Study the Subject

Binnacle’s Certificate II in Sport and Recreation ‘Sport in Schools’ program is offered as a Year 10 or senior subject where students assist with the delivery of a range of sport activities and programs within the school. Graduates will be competent in a range of essential skills – including officiating games, coaching beginner participants to develop fundamental skills, communication in sport and assisting delivery of activity programs.

Program delivery will combine both class-based tasks and practical components in a real sport environment at the school. This involves the delivery of a range of sport programs to real participants within the school community (high school and primary school students).

A range of teaching/learning strategies will be used to deliver the competencies. These include:

Evidence contributing towards competency will be collected throughout the course. This process allows a student’s competency to be assessed in a holistic approach that integrates a range of competencies. Practical experiences have been timetabled within class time. Students will keep a Log Book of these practical experiences (minimum 20 hours).


Pathways The Certificate II in Sport and Recreation will predominantly be used by students seeking to enter the sport, fitness and recreation industry as a community coach, sports coach, athlete, volunteer or activity assistant. Students may also choose to continue their study [e.g. by completing the Certificate III/IV (e.g. Sport or Fitness)].

Binnacle’s Certificate III in Fitness ‘Fitness in Schools’ program is offered as a senior subject where students deliver a range of fitness

programs and services to clients within their school community. Graduates will be competent in a range of essential skills – such as

undertaking client health assessments, planning and delivering fitness programs, and conducting group fitness sessions in indoor and

outdoor fitness settings, including with older adult clients.

TERM 6: A minimum of one session (60 minutes) – delivering a gentle exercise session to an older adult client (age 50+), undertaken at the school gym or an alternate fitness facility sourced by the school.

All other practical experiences have been timetabled within class time. Students will keep a Log Book of these practical experiences (minimum 40 hours).

Pathways

The Certificate III in Fitness will predominantly be used by students seeking to enter the fitness industry and/or as an alternative entry into University. For example:

This unit is completed within the qualification HLT33115 Certificate III in Health Services Assistance. Students who are completing CHC32015 Certificate III in Community Services can complete this unit as a stand alone. The fee for service charge is $35.00.

HLTAID003 Provide First Aid

Students can complete HLTAID003 Provide First Aid with another RTO Provider and they will need to provide the Statement of Attainment Certificate if they are requesting a Credit Transfer.

Teacher Accelerated Program (TAP) (incorporating RPL)

The fee for a trainer to complete their TAP to obtain the Certificate II Health & Community Services qualifications is $299 per trainer. The fee for a trainer to complete their TAP to obtain a Certificate III qualification is $299 per trainer per qualification. You will have one TAP included in your yearly program fee.

Health Teaching Kit

Your school may be eligible for a health teaching kit which is provided in year one of the Program. This can also be sourced by our supplier and paid by the school.

If your school delivers all Connect ‘n’ Grow programs under a full fee for service arrangement, teaching kits must be purchased. Please contact a Connect ‘n’ Grow representative around the costs of this health kit.

Further information on this is provided in your Partnership Agreement.

Refunds

All fees related to Connect ‘n’ Grow Programs are invoiced directly to the school, therefore any refund requests

would be coming from the partner school.

Certificate Programs: CnG will invoice for its Programs in Term 2 following the confirmation of the official enrolment.

Students that withdraw from the program before the cut-off (start of term 2) and where CnG is notified of this withdrawal do not incur the participant fee. These students will be issued a Statement of Attainment for any competencies successfully completed.
