Contents
1. Importance of Plants.
2. Parts of Plants.
3. Function of Parts of Plants.
Importance of Plants Plants are all around us. They make the air fresh. They give us shade. They are the source of food for Animals and
Human beings. They provide us medicines. We use many things in our daily life which
are made of wood and we get the wood from Plants.
Parts of plants
Plants have different parts. The two main parts are root
and shoot. Mostly the roots grow under the ground . Shoot is the part of the plant which grow
above the ground. The shoot has the stem, branches,
leaves bud, flowers and fruits.
The Root
Some plants have a main long straight root. Many thinner roots grow out from the main root. This type of root is called tap root.
Other plants have many roots. All roots are of same size. They are attached with the stem, there is no main root. This is called fibrous root.
The Stem
The stem is the main part of shoot. Trees usually have hard, woody, strong
stem. The stems are connected with a thick
bark. Some stems are weak. They cannot hold
the plant. Such plants climb with the help of a support. They are called climbers.
The Leaf
Leaves are flat and green in color. Leaf make food for plant. It uses sunlight, carbon dioxide, water and
chlorophyll to make food. The food prepared by leaf is stored in fruits,
seeds, root, stem and leaf. During the day leaves take in carbon dioxide and
give out oxygen which make the air clean. At night the plants do not make food, they only
breathe in oxygen and give out carbon dioxide.
Flowers, Fruits and Seeds Flowers are of different sizes, shapes, colors,
and smell which make a plant beautiful. Flowers make fruits, they have seeds which
help in growing a new plant. Some fruits have only one seed, some have few
seeds and some have many seeds. Inside the seed is a baby plant which grows into
a healthy plant after getting sunlight, water, air and good soil.
Short Term Goal
The questioning strategies will be arranged in a way that critical thinking of the students will be up raised.
e.g. Name the plants which are used as food, medicines and decoration. Children will categorize the plants according to their usefulness.
Students will be encouraged for their answers instead of prasing.
e.g. The examples given by child from daily life will be appreciated.
Encourage team work among students.
e.g. Discussion among the students can make them understand more clearly their views on the topic.
Solution to anticipated challenges
Challenges The HOD may not agree
with my approach of investigating plants through different resources.
Parents may also not understand the new methodology.
Solutions I will arrange a meeting
with HOD and Principal to convince them about the benefits of the new approaches of 21st century.
Parents will be informed through circulars and written hand out about the new strategy well before time. Suggestions from parents will also be welcomed.
Need more practice to work with computer.
Some students may not like to work together.
I will stay after the school to practice different basic computer application.
Students will be encouraged to work in group and they will come to know the importance of team work.
Time Line
Monthly Planner August : Investigating Plants. September : How Animals eat. October : How Birds live. November : Living safely.
Long Term Goal
21st century teaching approaches will be adopted to improve the students ability to understand more clearly the related topic.
Instructional Strategies and Tasks I will suggest the children to watch TV programs
and consult books about plants. They will probe and investigate to get more knowledge.
More time will be given to the students for group discussions and to make work sheets.
Probing questions will be asked which will help them to come to an answer.
Students will be arranged in group for discussion and to find the best solution of the problem given to them.
