BTEC in QATAR • The Ministry of Education has recognised the growing demand for BTEC in the Middle-East region and the

benefits to the education sector in Qatar. • BTEC qualifications have been awarded the same equivalent status as IGCSE (Level 2) and AS (Level 3)

qualifications which are accepted as part of the Thanaweeya (secondary certificate of education in Qatar). • Although most of our students are applying for universities within the UK; The BTEC qualification is

recognised by the Ministry, Army, Police force and many courses at the Qatar foundation universities.

BTEC at AMAB • We decided to offer BTEC because it is an alternative vocational course for students who do not need or

want to study all exam based, academic subjects. • The BTEC course is for all types students and leads to different university and employment options.

Currently students who do BTEC also take AS Maths, Physics, Business and I.C.T. (All of the students take AS Arabic).

• We are proud to announce that BTEC has been a success at AMAB since gaining approval in 2018 and we are expecting excellent results this year with 100% of students on course to achieve either a C, B or A grade (equivalent to AS).

• At AMAB we are obliged by the Pearson guidelines to ensure that we deliver courses which are relevant, up to date and reflect the local skills and needs of our students. Our current Travel and Tourism student’s assignments look at the Qatar Airways business model. Business students will likely focus on Qatar’s leading banks and Qatar Petroleum or Gas in the energy sector, whereas our Sports students would focus on local Sports clubs and the Qatar 2020 World Cup as part of their assignments.

BTEC Assessment • There are no exams for BTEC. 100% of the assessment is assignment based. • Students make use of internet research and the latest Microsoft tools to complete their assignments. • All BTEC qualifications will be Internally assessed by our Pearson qualified assessors as AMAB is a

recognised Pearson exam centre, chosen by students all round Qatar to sit their exams. • Pearson does not (usually) set exams and any internal exam style assessments will be focused on vocational

or practical skills which will be carried out by the assessor (subject teacher).

Pearson • BTEC Vocational Qualifications are offered by Pearson (The world’s leading learning company) • Pearson are licensed by the UK government as a State Awarding Organisation. • They are the Largest Awarding Organisation in the UK and also award EDEXCEL qualifications. • Pearson work in partnership with Sector Skills Councils and local providers.

Why choose BTEC? • The Business and Technology Education Council was set up in 1984 (UK) to provide high quality, hands-on

vocational qualifications grounded in the real world of work. • Taken as a main course, alongside GCSEs and AS levels, or as part of an apprenticeship, a BTEC's all about

learning by doing to help students develop the practical knowledge and skills employers and universities are looking for. This is why a BTEC qualification can increase a students’ employment prospects.

• A qualification certifies that someone understands the skills and knowledge that are necessary for different occupations that’s why BTEC-qualified students keep applying what they learn at university and throughout their future career in the real world of employment.

• The specifications are based on National Occupational Standards, recognised by potential employers. • Qualifications are internationally recognised and regulated by Ofqual (the UK government regulator).
