Subcity Team PositionsJan/Feb 2014 Welcome to Subcity. We make it our duty to nd the best music and talent throughoutGlasgow and beyond, and give it a platform to be heard. Were currently looking for avariety of different people, for a variety of different roles, all of which are detailedbelow. If youre passionate about music and creative arts, wed love nothing more thanfor you to hit that apply now link and let us know. All the positions below are voluntary and will last until at least June 2014. Experience isby no means essential, what we want are ideas and enthusiasm. Time commitments varyfor each position, as such more than one person may share a role to spread theworkload.

Comms

Increasingly creative techniques are needed to get our good word to the masses, andmost importantly, get them to actually pay attention. We need the savviest of the savvyto spread the gospel truth of Subcity to the people of Glasgow and beyond. If youreup to the challenge of taking on the algorithm overlords and continually trying to beoriginal in 140 characters or less, this is the role for you!

This role includes:

Constructing a suitable written identity for the station.

Working to maximise Subcitys online presence through various social media. Creating effective marketing campaigns to promote the station.

Designer

The designer is key to the stations brand. They design the yers, posters andpromotional material for events and broadcasts, all of which will be plastered amongstthe bars, clubs and dingy hairdressers that make up Glasgow. If youre a dab hand atdrawing or excellent with Illustrator, hit us up, and wed love to have you on the team.

This role includes:

Working with the Comms team to construct a suitable visual identity for Subcity. Producing print and web-ready material to a brief. Creating effective designs for all Subcity visual material keeping with the stations

identity.

Ideal candidate would have good knowledge of designing for print & web using AdobeCreative Suite and be aware of suitable printing standards (Photoshop, Illustrator,InDesign)

Events

If you prefer working live to working behind the scenes, join our Events team. Youll begetting involved with our club nights, outside events and everything to do with puttingon and running the physical face of Subcity. We dont just do late-night club nights: Inthe past few years weve put on lm screenings, radio plays and more. We need peopleto help promote, organise and run these events, and if that sounds like your thing wedlove to hear from you.

This role includes:

Liaising with the team and contributors to develop fresh and exciting ideas for events. Coordinating a line-up, venue, budget, etc. for each event. Ensuring quality programming, promotion and production for each event.

Programmes Team

Our Programmes team are the guys in charge of what you hear and when you hear iton the station. They build the schedule, whilst constantly seeking out new & interestingprogramming and content for the broadcast. Its one of the busiest rolls at the station,but also one of the most rewarding.

This role includes:

Managing the application process for both new and returning shows. Sourcing interesting content and approaching potential contributors.

Working with the support team to regularly monitor and review the stations shows.

Support Team

There are some great radio shows on Subcity, but theres always room for improvement.Thats where the support team comes in: They listen to shows and tell them what theyredoing great, what they can do better, and most importantly, how they can do that.

This role includes:

Working with the programmes team to monitor and review the stations shows. Organising regular workshops to identify and solve problems. Working with the team to provide appropriate training for all contributors, including:

- Coordinating workshops on techniques to produce good radio.- Maintaining training manuals in conjunction with other team members.

Knowledge of Subcity or radio production would be benecial for this role.

IT/Web

Unlike the vast majority of student-run radio stations, Subcity are extremely proud tohave our own custom-built website and unique-to-UK-student-radio Listen Again serviceto tinker around with. Archived within this hallowed code is pretty much everybroadcast weve done since 2008, so theres a whole lot of internet radio to work with.If you fancy helping to continue develop the Subcity website & IT systems, apply here.

This role includes:

Continuing the development of the Subcity website, including: specication,

requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing and maintenance. Develop and help administer Subcitys IT systems, including our servers and ListenAgain service.

Ensuring content is kept up to date as required by the team.

A rm grounding in HTML, CSS, PHP and relational databases is essential. Knowledgeof using and administering Linux as well as revision control software such as Git wouldbe an advantage. General software, hardware & networking troubleshootingknowledge and experience with streaming audio software & Python would also behelpful.

Tech

Our tech team are responsible for keeping Subcity alive and broadcasting. Theymaintain all the equipment we use, both in the studio and at our club nights and outsideproductions. If youre interested in sound and light engineering, and are a dab handwith a soldering iron, wed love to hear from you.

This role includes:

Maintaining equipment that is necessary to the stations operation. Providing technical and production assistance at station events.

Facilitating the production of content where technical expertise is required, e.g. livesessions, outside broadcasts.

No experience is required but problem solving skills would be benecial. Anyexperience of soldering, basic electronics, sound engineering etc. would be anadvantage but training will be provided where required.
