Purpose and Objectives To examine awareness of regional transit concepts, and assess trip needs for the residents of select communities within communities south of Calgary, if a service were established in the near future. Investigate factors involved with the implementation of a trial regional transit service among residents. l  Examine perceptions of regional transit among communities in the region,

l  Within a regional context

l  Identify the regional perception of transit culture; what it means to use transit or who it is for e.g. commuters, socio-economic status, age l  Assess propensity to use transit service among residents

l  What would encourage residents to consider using transit l  Identify factors that would foster transit use among residents

l  Determine the needs of residents if a regional transit system were implemented in the

future l  Identify potential origins and destinations of regional transit use within service area l  Assess priority times of travel for transit use within the sub-regional service area l  Examine pricing and fare expectations for a regional transit service

Study Components l  Key stakeholder engagement/interviews –Consultation with

municipal representatives and other stakeholders located in the region to discuss the opportunity of a regional transit service.

l  Representative Survey – A survey was conducted by telephone using a probability sampling process. The questionnaire measured residents’ perceptions and behaviors about regional transit service and travel.

l  Engagement Survey – A open-link online questionnaire was developed to allow residents in the region to voice their opinions about regional transit. In this way the public was consulted openly and given a voice to all interested.
