How to Be a Great Stock Market Investor Successful investing is NOT easy. There, I’ve said it. No point beating around the bush. Don’t get me wrong. It’s not technically difficult. In fact, that’s the easy part. As you know, my maids and messengers have been investing successfully for years now. After a few clicks, they know how to operate the COL Financial website. They know how to buy and sell. I repeat, that’s the easy part. It’s not the technical part that’s difficult. Successful investing is emotionally difficult. You could be a rocket scientist and fail in investing because you don’t know how to control your emotions. And that, my dear friend, is the GREAT SECRET of successful investing in the stock market: CONTROL YOUR EMOTIONS. Let me give you an example. Today, we have the almost perfect condition of the stock market: If you buy at these low prices, you make the most long-term profit. But our emotions don’t see that. All we see is our stock market portfolio dripping with blood. All we see is that our money is 10 percent or 15 percent lesser on paper. And we “feel” depressed. Discouraged. Despondent. So we’re not excited to buy. Instead, we want to sell, run, and cry. But I assure you—if you can control your emotions—you’ll be a great stock market investor. That’s my prayer for you in 2014. Because this is going to be a SIDEWAYS year, going up and down a particular range. Your emotions will be depressed at a time when it should be the happiest year of investing. (In my mind, sideways means super!) If you stay the course and keep investing like clockwork month after month after month, you will be rewarded. Have a glorious year ahead of you! Successful investing is NOT easy. There, Ive said it.No point beating around the bush.Dont get me wrong. Its not technically difficult. In fact, thats the easy part. As you know, my maids and

    Clarifying SAMBy Mike Vias

Happy New Year! May you have a year like no other, because of the blessings, breakthroughs, and abundance that is coming your

way. May God bless you with a banner year! To jumpstart this New Year, I want to clarify with you (especially for those who are new to the Truly Rich Club

and new to investing), some details on our investment strategy, SAM or the Strategic Averaging Method, to make sure that you are investing through SAM correctly. Ill be providing this clarity by sharing with you an email that a friend of mine sent regarding her portfolio and my response to her query. I believe you will learn a lot from this example and it will help you get your SAM investments ontrack this 2014. I hope this helps you as much as it did for my friend.

    Here it is:

Hi Brother Mike! Thanks for agreeing to take a look at my portfolio. :) I fear that my stocks are significantly unequal because when

I had commissions in the past months, I would divide it and buy some SAM stocks. But just to note, BPI, SMPH and JFC were all my EIP stocks that I had last year. But I stopped buying these

stocks when I started doing SAM.

Let me know what you think.

    Thanks, Packed Portfolio

    Heres my response:

Dear Packed Portfolio, It looks fine. However, I would suggest to make sure that you are able to buy each of these stocks on a regular basis (monthly

or quarterly). This is so that you can cost-average effectively. It seems to me that you are following too many stocks. Are you able to buy for each of these stocks each month? I would suggest, set a fixed amount for yourself that you are able to save regularly and thats how much you will

be investing for that month or quarter. From the amount, divide it among a few stocks. One does NOT need to buy all SAM recommended stocks, especially if he/she is unable to buy for each of them on a regular basis. Manage only a few

  • Stocks Update Volume 4, No. 24 January 2014 PaGE 3 of 6Stocks UpdateStocks Update

stocks that you can be sure youll be able buy for each of them every month or every quarter. As an example, say you can save P5000 a month. That will only more or less allow you to buy two stocks per

month (due to board lot minimums). Stick to those two stocks, buy them regularly as long as they are under their Buy Below Price. Switching from one stock to another each month wont work. Stick with a few, and buy them regularly.

Only when one can save more money regularly can one invest in more stocks. For the intermittent commissions that you get, its good that you are opting to invest this money rather than spend

it. I would suggest for you to divide the amount into six or 12 parts, and each of the parts is what you invest in your SAM stocks or other SAM stocks that are still below their Buy Below Price.

I would also advice you to decide per stock what kind of investment will you be making for that stock. Is it an EIP or SAM investment? EIP and SAM are two different strategies. For the EIP you simply have to buy that stock regularly regardless of the market price and sell 5-10 even 20 years down the road, or when you need the money. For SAM, youll be buying regularly from our recommended list, but you will only buy as long as it is below the Buy Below Price and sell when it hits the Target Price.

All of this is to ensure you are able to invest effectively. I hope this helps.

God bless your investments! Mike V.

I hope this has answered some of the questions and clarifications you might have had regarding the SAM investment strategy. I hope this would be helpful to your continued investment throughout 2014. And with the projection that the market will go sideways throughout the year, may you have a great year accumulating great stocks at good prices!

    Happy accumulating and investing!
