Our Purpose The Students’ Union exists to serve and represent
students of the University of Mauritius, in order to support their pursuit of knowledge and enhance their experience during their stay at the University by promoting and providing welfare, social, cultural and educational activities.
Our Vision The University of Mauritius shall become an aspiring
institution for the Mauritian Community, be the facilitator for students and help to thrive academically, physically and socially.
The Students’ Union shall be an aspiring organisation that reflect the passion and motivation of students. We shall become a dynamic and exciting organisation; continue to encourage creativity and ambitious initiative; innovate, adapt and deliver relevant changes at the heart of students’ life.

Our Mission The University of Mauritius should exist as a facilitator
for students and staff, whether it is for academic achievements, leisure activities, research development, promoting innovative initiation, and participation into community, social and economical development of the country.
Delivery of Service We aim to:
Implementation of a communication platform between the University and employers, where contents of courses would adapt to changes and demands of the local and international job market.
Tailor formation course programmes, to satisfy the need of the country tomorrow.
Enhance the service provided to students by development partnership or industrial opportunities.
Digital Innovation We aim to:
Use technology to create and enhance services and facilities that are valued by our students.
Make use of the new digital service to provide resources and develop new approaches for academic teaching (Library, Digital arts) and administrative procedures.
Integrate the social and local cloud networks, with the development of Social pages and Mobile applications.
First Impression We aim to:
Improve the impression a student experiences from the very moment he hears of UOM. Innovate, aesthetically, the UOM Website to enhance the browsing of public experience.
Have up-to-date and dynamic or interact application software (Mobile Apps) for all audiences: the public, newcomers, students, staff and alumni.
Travelling We aim to:
Improve the transport service (NTA) and ensure safe travelling of students to and from campus.
Implement after hours transport scheme for part time students as the courses being offered at the University does not align with the time schedule of buses operating through Reduit.
Provide a shuttle bus service (Reduit – Ebene – MGI)
IT and Networking We aim to:
Increase the accessibility of students to large online journal and research databases.
Promote Moodle service across all faculty and ensure proper use by academics
Be equipped with the latest hardware to support new curriculum and servers
On Campus Facilities We aim to:
Increase and improve the facilities made available to students due to the high density of students present on campus (Toilets, sitting space, maintenance of rooms and equipment)
Innovate with younger generation lifestyle and new technology development (Renewable Energy Generation)
Health and Safety We aim to:
Provide a health and secure environment for students to acquire knowledge, practice safely and play comfortably.
Encourage first aid and emergency management training for students to handle such situation.
Promote different social and healthy awareness to inculcate safe and healthy practices (Safety, Nutritional and Citizen workshops)
Sports and health We aim to:
Promote leisure and competitive sports activities. Encourage participation of students into off-campus activates, such as the Nautical Activities & Sports, Mountain Hiking, Recreational activities (Bowling).
Encourage UOM sports team to participate at national level and represent the University.
Provide fitness machines for students at the gymnasium
Guidance and Support We aim to
Investigate and implement more methods of students support – Online students complaints, feedback and queries database.
Encourage mentorship programme – Utilising and sharing of skills and knowledge across departments.
Develop and adapt workshops for students, as job market landscape changes.
Needy Students We aim to:
Increase the quality of service provided as well as the supporting the brilliant students who cannot afford a University.
Develop schemes for companies to invest and to sponsors students to pursue their studies at the University.
Implement new scholarship programme based on national sport achievement of students.
Global Perspectives We aim to:
Create an atmosphere that enables students to benefit from intercultural experience, and develop their global understanding.
Promote international job prospective to students
Skills Development We aim to:
Create opportunities for students, support and encourage them to develop their latent skills and potential .
Increase training program and workshop for students (First Aid Training, fire fighting, Entrepreneurship, photography, languages and others)
Facilitate and encourage collaboration of students with organisation to develop administrative skills
Enhancing Employability We aim to:
Enhance students’ employability through series of seminar and interactive platforms
Promote students placement and exchange programme for development of work experience awareness
Creating career guidance platforms in collaboration with organisation
Communities and Volunteering We aim to:
Provide services and spaces that allow students to develop communities (Societies and Clubs), team building activities and feel supported.
Encourage students and staff to setup platform and creating opportunities for participating into building the welfare less fortunate ones.
