Buffalo State's IntensiveEnglish Language Institute(IELI) offers a year-round, 6-level intensive Englishprogram for students fromaround the word.

6 levels of study (beginning to advanced)New Students take the TOEFL placement exam on the firstday of the session and are placed in the appropriate levelfor each core class (Reading & Culture, Listening &Speaking, Grammar & Writing).

A minimum of 20 hours of class per weekFull-time students study a minimum of 20 hours perweek in core classes. More can be added through theBridge Program.

Professional, experienced teachersAll IELI faculty members have master'sdegrees in TESL (Teaching English as aSecond Language). Many have also lived andtaught outside of the United States.

Established in 1871, SUNY Buffalo State is the oldest

public institution of higher learning in the City of

Buffalo. Our 125-acre campus is very accessible,

walk-able and is located in Buffalo's vibrant museum

district, adjacent to the Albright-Knox Art Gallery and

Delaware Park. The Campus is surrounded by trendy

TOEFL/ IELTS WaiverInterested individuals who have already taken theTOEFL or IELTS exam have the opportunity to submittheir past scores to the Center for Global EngagementOffice for review.

If you want to improve your English language skills, BuffaloState's IELI is the perfect place for you to begin. You willtake English classes at the appropriate level together withother students from different countries around the world.

Through the Bridge program, students enrolled in theIELI at Buffalo State have the ability to take up to twofull credit-bearing undergraduate classes while they areenrolled in their English as a second language studies.
