Sophia Griego March 2011 Styling Book Report

I chose to read Full Frontal Fashion, a book I received from my mother while I

was in my Fashion class at a vocational school. This book really inspired me and now

that I look back at it, we are learning similar things to what the book has. In this paper I

will be discussing what I believe were the key element of the book

Eleven steps to help you discover your fashion personality

1. Develop an eye- Try on as many different styles as you can, and find celebrity

style icons to open your eyes to different styles.

2. Let “it’s you” be your style- Listen to your self first then to those who tell you

what you’re wearing is “you”. Even though someone might compliment you on

what your wearing the compliment maybe because the outfit is so unusual.

3. Look in the mirror- figure out what your assets are or what you love about

yourself.

4. Ask yourself, “Am I excited?”- Do you feel good in it? Do you feel like a million

bucks?

5. Be willing to adapt-Refine your personality. Ask yourself, “What is my

lifestyle?”

6. Remember: Runway is not reality- Go with reality, what you will see on the

runway is not necessarily what you will get in the stores.

7. Go ahead change your personality!- Your fashion personality will change and

constantly evolve. During the different stages of your life you may change your

fashion personality.

8. Get help- Find someone who will analyze your look. Visit the personal shopping

department at your local department store for style advice.

9. We all get lazy- the key to style dressing is to be conscious of your look.

10. Join the club- Realize the connections and be yourself. Many of us, consciously

or not, dress to signal our membership in a fashion club.

11. Lighten up- you shouldn’t take fashion too seriously. It’s the icing on the cake.

Top Ten Fashion Personalities

Classic- Timeless and quality

Preppy- Takes more risks with color, could double as country-club clothes

Fashion Forward- a fashionista who loves clothes

Eccentric- they wear what they want

Bohemian- Carefree, free-spirited romantic

The Uniform Dresser- Blends in and repeats certain basics

Hot- She looked good in it because she knew her body

Park Avenue Chic- Most label conscious, their trademark is usually luxury

Jet Set- Flashier than other personalities, with very little money they pick up great finds

Mixing it up- the confidence to pull it off, instead of being risk takers, they are more

experimental.

The rest of the book goes into detail about how you can become your own

personal shopper with the skills discussed in the book. They also go through many

situations where you might struggle choosing the correct outfit such as the perfect dress

Sophia Griego March 2011 Styling Book Report for a date, or how to look fashionable at work. The final chapters of the book are how to

you no longer need those items. And finally it goes through how to shop for yourself with

an critical eye.
