Petroglyph Petroglyphs are images that are engraved, carved, or scratched into a

rock.

Trademark A trademark is a symbol of some kind used by a person, or a company to identify their

products or services they provide, and to distinguish their products or services from

others.

A trademark could be a name, word, phrase, logo, design, image, or a combination

of any or all of them.

Rebus

One of the most basic rebus

made.

Eye + heart + u = I love you

A rebus is a puzzle where you decode a message that could be a word or

a phrase from pictures or symbols from their sounds not their meaning.

Ligature

A ligature are letters that connect together, mostly used to improve the

appearance of type, and creates a smoother transition from letter to letter.

Illuminated Manuscript Illuminated Manuscript is used to describe books that are handwritten and

decorated with borders, and miniature illustrations

Carpet Pages Carpet pages are pages usually from illuminated manuscripts that are highly

decorated with very little or no text.

Carpet pages are devoted to ornamentation with colors, active lines and woven

design looks.

Calligraphy

Calligraphy is a type of visual art, often called the art of fancy lettering.

Calligraphy flourishes in

the form of wedding and

event invitations.

Logogram

Logograms are visual symbols representing words.

Arabesque

Arabesque is a form of fancy decoration consisting of plain lines combined with elements. They are found in Islamic art. Arabesque is also named for the Arabic area where it was developed.

Woodcut A woodcut is a piece of wood that is carved into to make a print. The parts that are not intended to be part of the print is cut out of the wood and the parts that make the picture stay and get covered with ink then pressed to paper.

Perspective

Perspective is the art of making 2D images look like 3D. Everything in the

image is related to one certain point to give it depth. That certain point is

called vanishing point and is usually in the middle of the image.

Foreshortening

Foreshortening is an illusion made on a flat

surface to look like it may go on forever.
