Company Description

Motoman is located in Torsas. Motoman was founded 1976. They have 150 employees in

Torsas. Their sector is mainly robot systems, peripheral equipment and software. They are

manufacturing robot cabins and control panels. Beside of that they have robot distribution,

process analyzes and training services. They are responsible of North Europe. They are part

of big Japanese company Yaskawa. Motoman takes naked robots and electronics

components from Yaskawa Japan and produce robots cabins with control panels then sell

the product.

In the company they have different departments such as sales, IT, financial, manufacturing,

planning. They are producing special products for customer demands. Before producing they

make 3d models to show the customer. They do not have product development of robots ,

robots come from Japan they make cabinet and programs to make robot functional. Robots

come with the basic program, they program robot again to how it should it work. Before

shipping they always make two different tests which are FAT( Factor Acceptance Test) and

SAT( Side Acceptance Test). They produce nearly 2000 robots per year. They have the big

advantage of the market because they are faster to deliver products compare to their

competitors.

IT STSYEMS

Motoman use Epicor İSCALA SR3 as ERP system. They use purchasing, billing, stock, MPS,

Project, Order, Sales Ledger functions in İSCALA SR3. Almost of their IT systems such as Easy

Warehouse, Mechanical and Electrical Design and PDM system are integrated to ERP system

İSCALA SR3.

Purchasing and sales ledger functions are in Financial suite. According to İSCALA brochure

using financial suite provides an integrated set of sales, Purchase and general ledger. Also it

provides process to monitor, control and reconcile data.

They use stock functions to monitor the inventory amount. They use MPS function in İSCALA

to make production planning and inventory control. With MPS company can see available

material and ready products for shipping. Also they can plan when they should order new

material. Also MPS helps to delivery schedules and purchase activities.

Motoman is using İSCALA Project modules strongly. According to İSCALA brochure, with

project suite company can plan each step. For planned projects they can track project’s steps

and see all information such as after sales service, contract , purchase and order . They can

configure projects according to customer demands during the project. With all of these

functions Motoman using the İSCALA project suite to plan everything about their projects

such as project planning, project billing, customer demand requires. All projects are divided

to sub-projects which include time, cost and material information. Time and cost

information are entered manually.

Easy Warehouse is a warehouse management system. They use this systems for picking

items. On normal warehouse system one employee makes pick up list for needed parts, then

employee goes to the warehouse and pick up items and fulfill the pickup list. Then employee

back to the computer and enter the system manually what s/he took. In Easy Warehouse

system, employee use handheld PC to chose product then system automatically makes pick

up list and take material automatically to deliver to related work stations.

They use computer aided design (CAD) software like Autodesk Inventor , CATIA, DELMIA for

mechanical design. With this software, they design robot systems including every part. Then

they make technical drawings, 3d modeling and simulations. Computer aided manufacturing

(CAM) is a way to make programming for CNC machines according to CAD drawings. By

using CAD-CAM systems they do not have to enter drawing manually to CNC machines. Thus

their computers are connected to CNC machines. By using this connection they use CAD-

CAM simulations. They use ZUKEN E3 series 2012 software for electrical design. This

software is used to handle electrical wiring and control system. All of the technical drawings

and design documents archived in PDM system. Design and PDM systems are integrated

with each other.

They use Dassault Smart Team software for product data management (PDM) system. They

use this software for mechanical and electrical drawings. Advantages of this software are

employees can reach the last version of drawings and software automatically organize and

save drawings.

Motoman has two different Human Resources applications. One of them is a Flex Data

System which is used to come and go time for employees. The other one is Hogia Industrial

Payroll System which is used for calculating salary of employees. These systems do not

integrate to ERP system Epicor İSCALA SR3.

Customer Relationship Management (CRM) is important for Motoman also for Yaskawa.

They use same software which is SalesForce for all countries and all offices. Also they use

same databases and same language it makes easier communications between countries. This

system based on the cloud which makes easier access from any location. It is not integrated

with ERP.

When company makes first offer to customer, they make pre-calculation in excel. The data

which are used in the pre - calculation taken from an ERP system and enter excel manually.

The data are taken from ERP system includes robot cost, material cost, electronic parts cost,

assembly cost and risk costs.

Reporting is one of the most important things Yaskawa. Therefore it is important for

Motoman too. Motoman has to report mainly forecast and production status every week to

Yaskawa. Their ERP system Epicor İSCALA SR3 has reporting functions but it is not strong

enough for them for this reason they have their own reporting system. As you can see figure

below. The data are taken from database, reporting with excel then send it to Yaskawa.

IT TRENDS in Motoman

According to IT manager of Motoman, every part of Yaskawa will use same ERP system

because of different countries have different ERP system it cause communications problems

moreover they cannot see each other stock information which cause unnecessary stock. Also

they have different part numbers for same parts which makes confusion.

They will have a common e-mail system. In current situation they do not have same e-mail

system which can makes confusion. For example Motoman Torsas use Outlook but Germany

uses Lotus.
