And the topic of the paper is, How an article on the impacts of suicide make you feel and/or what it makes you realize As I go into this article I enter it with an open mind. Not having an abundance of information on the subject, I am ignorant as to what research has been conducted on the consequences a suicide has on a family as a whole. My lack of personal knowledge makes this article all the more interesting to me, due to having some friends that have had to deal with this issue in the past and I hope that it may give me an insight as to why certain things occurred in their life after the event. I also have the hope that it will provide me with an opportunity to possibly gain an understanding on some concerns that have not been recognized or observed to the extent that they should be. Right from the onset of reading this article, the authors make it immediately known that little research has been done on the topic of suicide and the impact it has on the family structure. This makes me feel concerned because having a friend in the military, he has told me about how much they stress the subject even having an army wide program to help prevent suicide and to get help to those who need it, and this makes me know that suicide is an extremely concerning topic.

And the topic of the paper is, How an article on the impacts of suicide make you feel and/or what it makes you realize

As I go into this article I enter it with an open mind. Upon reading on the effects a suicide has social relationships, I come out feeling alarmed of the the social structure of the family commonly reacts to the suicide. Often isolating or ignoring the issue of those individuals closest to the deceased. I believe they react in the wrong manner because the individuals most effected already have a tendency to bottle or hide how they feel about the death making the process even harder on themselves and they even often hide the cause of death, further withdrawing themselves from the family unit. As with any death in a family, it should be a time for the family to come together and mourn as one, to learn from the incident and possibly prevent it in the future or at the very least make the mourning process easier. Im realizing, as I get further into this article, that suicide has many common effects as other types of deaths, but also has unique characteristics associated with it. In my opinion these unique effects are caused by the awkwardness and lack of understanding that comes with suicide. Though it is a prevalent thing, suicide is not that common when compared to other causes of death, making the individuals involved confused as to how to react to the situation. This I believe is what causes the withdrawal and seclusion from family from both the suicide survivors and the extended family, the anxiousness and susceptibility to fall into bad habits from adolescents, and the lack of post loss emotional support to the survivors of the suicide. With the conclusion of the article, they finish with giving the reader an idea on what kind of studies need to be conducted and how to approach them and I agree with them. The study of suicide is not a simple one and obviously has many variables, from even the simplest one concerning age to more complex ones concerning the social group of the individual being examined. I personally feel though that a lot of the complications caused by suicide can be circumvented by raising awareness of the already known effects so that families can be better prepared to combat the difficulties that follow a suicide.
