THERE ARE NO TUITIONfees for students studying at universities inSweden with a few exceptions. Higher education is currently fullysubsidized by the state, for both Swedish and foreign students.

Should you want to top up your living allowance while in Sweden,it is good to know that non-EU citizens with a student visa can workfor the duration of their studies.

Scholarships are also available. The Swedish Institute, a publicagency, administers over 500 scholarships annually to foreignstudents and researchers from around the world. Competition is highand recipients are chosen for their academic excellence.

The Erasmus Mundus program, which is largely aimed at non-EUstudents, offers generous scholarships for selected courses at anumber of Swedish universities.

For more information on scholarships visit www.studyinsweden.se .

Hairuo Zhang, China, Internationaland Comparative Law Programme,Uppsala University

The seminars are my favorite part ofstudying in Sweden. In China, most of ourclasses are lectures and there is no studentparticipation. Here, we are divided intogroups to prepare for the seminars. Groupdiscussions are very beneficial because theyrequire us to learn how to cooperate withpeople who are from all over the world. Thismethod also promotes the spirit of teamwork.

And this is how law firms work in real life.”
