The Associaon of Independent California Colleges and Universies has developed affiliate relaonships with some of the finest universies in Mexico. The University: The Anahuac Mayab University is a prominent Catholic university that enrolls 3,000 students offering highly ranked undergraduate and graduate programs in a number of areas. The Anahuac Network is integrated by 17 universies: 10 in Mexico, 1 in Chile, 1 in Spain, 2 in Italy and 3 in the United States. Our network has an internaonal educaonal system which extends at the moment in 18 countries and serves more than 100,000 students from the kindergarten to the graduate level. Examples of instuons that are part of this system are: Interamerican University for Development (with 25 campuses in Mexico) and the Superior Instute of Family Sciences. The Anahuac Mayab University currently offers 21 undergraduate programs, 14 masters and 3 doctorates. FIMPES: In January 2004, the Anahuac Mayab University received the highest accreditaon in its category from FIMPES (Federaon of Private Instuons for Higher Educaon in Mexico), being recognized by both naonal and internaonal standards for the high quality of professional educaon that it offers to its students. As part of its connuous improvement process, the Anahuac Mayab University study programs are accredited in each major, which assures that the students and graduates are more compeve in their fields of work, keep themselves current and are deeply linked to the business environment. The Locaon: The campus is located approximately ten miles from the center of Merida, (capital of the state of Yucatan and center of cultural & business acvies), five miles from the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico, and two miles from major Mayan ruins. It is also located 3.5 hours by car from the exclusive internaonal resort center of Cancun. Merida is also a beauful and very safe city, proudly named the First American Capital of Culture in year 2000. Mérida is also the starng point to explore the Mayan civilizaon, one of the most complex and sophiscated cultures of the ancient world. Close to Merida you can find the ruins of Dzibilchaltún, and the archaeological zone of Chichén Itzá is two hours away. Named by the UNESCO as Patrimony of Mankind, in 2007 Chichen Itza was selected as one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. Just 26 Km. from Merida, connected by a modern eight-lane highway, is the Port of Progreso. In addion to its beauful beaches, Progreso is the third most important port of Mexico, and is the point of entry between the Gulf of Mexico, the East Coast of the United States, Europe, and Central and South America. Progreso has the necessary infrastructure to promote the entry of foreign goods (approximately 12 tons per year) as well as docking transatlanc cruise lines. The Opportunity: Student and Faculty Exchange.

The Anahuac Mayab University has established strong ties with educational institutions and businesses of international prestige in order to benefit the learning experiences of its students, to promote academic exchange programs, joint activities and research projects. The University is part of CONAHEC (Consortium for North American Higher Education Collaboration) through which it is affiliated to more than 140 prestigious universities of various countries, all accredited by international committees.

As a university with an international perspective, the Anahuac Mayab University has developed an academic student exchange program with different countries around the world, all for the purpose of contributing to the integral development of our students in a globalized context, giving them the necessary skills to be professional and social leaders through their work. The Anahuac Mayab University welcomes international students through the Exchange Program or the Visiting Students’ (Study Abroad) Program. International students have the opportunity to take courses in English and a Spanish language course.

Currently, Anahuac Mayab University has academic exchanges with more than 100 universities throughout the world.

Through our Visiting Professors’ Program we receive professors of prestigious national and international universities and industries. These visiting professors establish collaborations with our faculty members and share their expertise with our students through seminars, intensive courses and/or workshops in strategic academic areas, allowing them to acquire a global vision and cutting edge knowledge in their area of study.

Mayab Buddy Program.

In order to help international students to integrate into the academic and social community, we have developed the Mayab Buddy Program. Exchange and visiting students are assigned to a Mayab student who will become their Mayab Buddy even before their arrival to the University. The Mayab Buddy will welcome exchange students at their arrival in Merida and assist them to find accommodation according to their needs. They will also help exchange students if they have any problems (academic or personal) in and outside the university, or will take them with the proper person that will be able to help. The Mayab Buddy will organize recreational activities such as group dinners, excursions, etc.

International Programs and Language Department

The International Programs and Language Department, offer English courses and organize classes in other languages. They also offer tailor made programs in areas such as the Spanish language, the history and culture of Yucatan, and how to do business in Mexico. The Department has a computer-assisted learning program and is the official site for the TOEFL iBT ® exam.

Academics

ORIENTATION COURSE: Anahuac Mayab University invites exchange/visiting students to participate in the Orientation Course for Exchange Students. Their participation is mandatory. The course takes place during the week before classes start.

TERMS:

Fall term: August – December Spring term: January – June Summer term: Mid June – Mid July

COURSE SELECTION: Exchange students receive an email with the course offering and the list of academic advisors. They should select their courses and send an email to their academic advisor with their course selection. The academic advisor will confirm that students are enrolled in their courses. Research

Research is one of the linchpins of academic life of the Universidad Anáhuac Mayab, and a concrete and effective mean of formation, that looks for pertinent solutions for strategic priority needs detected in the environment.

Our University has developed the Institutional Program to Reinforce Research with the objective of assuring the quality of the substantive functions of teaching, and transmission of knowledge through the promotion, coordination and administration of research in the different schools and departments. It also promotes the development of human resources in the research area. Students, professors and graduates actively participate in this

research program, thereby, enriching the educational model.

Unit for Innovation and Competitiveness

The Unit for Innovation and Competitiveness is the link between the public, social, private and academic sectors. Its purpose is to maximize education, science, technology and innovation as the axis for advanced economic-social development.

State of the Art Facilities and Technology

Our comfortable facilities offer huge spaces, air-conditioned classrooms with technological teaching resources that favor the teaching-learning process. The campus has 100% wireless Internet access.

At the University, students and professors will find laboratories equipped with cutting edge technology in the areas of:

--Medicine: An operating room, an amphitheater, a clinical analysis laboratory, and a biotechnology lab.

--Dentistry: A dental clinic.

--Communications and Design: A television studio, post-production area, a radio studio, a photography lab, silk-screening area, aerography equipment, and classrooms equipped with state of the art drawing tables.

--Engineering: Networks, instrumentation and mechanic installations.

--Computer lab: With the most advanced hardware and software technology tools.

--Video conference system: The first in southeast Mexico. With this system the University keeps continuous contact to national and international partners.

Student Services

Foreign Student Service Center (CAF for the Spanish acronym): Welcomes students from out of town and other countries and gives them the necessary support to feel at home, through services such as lodging, transportation, meals and integration activities.

Cultural Center: Organizes a wide array of extracurricular activities in theater, movies, singing, dancing, and photography.

Athletic Department: Students can practice a wide variety of sports and activities in our Cumbres Sports Club facilities, which includes four tennis courts, three indoor soccer areas, a beach volleyball court, a semi-Olympic pool, a soccer field surrounded by a jogging track, a gymnasium, and two air-conditioned rooms for social events, a cafeteria and a parking area.

University athletes compete both nationally and internationally in different sports such as fencing, weightlifting, sailing, track, karate and soccer, among others. A few students have even participated in the Olympic Games.

Library: It counts with over 38,000 volumes and access to electronic databases from all over the world.

Transportation: The Mayabus transportation service is available to students and professors, providing service to and from our campus through two comfortably, equipped buses.

In addition to what has already been mentioned, the University also offers modern computer areas distributed at key points on our campus, as well as a cafeteria, a nursing station, and an office supply store.
