Teaching and Learning StylesThroughout the TRC Colleges University Foundation Programme the modules are taught using seminars, tutorials, formal classes and lectures to mirror the style of teaching and learning at university

Assessment and SupportProgress is monitored on a continuous basis through critically marked course work and class tests. The final grad for each unit is based on a combination of course work and end of term tests. Students can retake some tests to improve their marks if necessary.English Language is assessed externally by IELTS and students will take more than one test during their course to record their progression.

Course GradesA = 71%; B = 61-70% ; C = 56-60%; D = 51-55%;E = 41-51%; U = 0-40%While a E Grade is the minimum pass grade different universities will require different grades for different degree subjects.

Programme Length and Teaching HoursThe standard TRC UFP is 3 terms of 30 – 36 weeks and teaching hours are 35 hours which comprises of 20 hours tuition per week and 15 hours guided study depending on the centre. TRC Centres English Language with IELTS Programme is either a stand-alone programme for students just wanting to learn English Language, or for students who do not have a high enough English language level for entry to TRC Colleges University Pre University Programmes, or for those requiring direct entry to university Bachelor or Masters degrees. Generally we apply the same Roll-on-Roll-off intake concept with a new intake every 10 – 12 weeks depending on the centre. Therefore, September, January, April and June are the usual entry points.Each student is tested on arrival and put into the appropriate level of English language class. Progress is reviewed weekly and classes adjusted for the individual according to progress.General English forms the core of the week with IELTS preparation assuming a smaller amount at the beginning of the programme but increasing as the student progresses.

Depending on the individual, as a general guideline it takes 10 – 12 weeks to gain 0.5 of an IELTS point.already TRC offers a placement service into its partner universities. ENGLISH VACATION COURSESFor those students still at school or college TRC Colleges run English Vacation Courses in the UK. These are usually from 2 weeks duration and are run at prominent City centres like Bangor, London and Edinburgh during the summer vacation period where the students stay in hostels or host family, taught in well appointed classrooms and enjoy all the facilities of the hosting institution and surrounding area. English classes are taught in the morning and activities and tours take place in the afternoon, with some entertainment in the evenings. This is a typical two week programme:

Birmingham City University is the second largest of three universities in the city. Birmingham City University is the West Midlands’ largest provider of higher education for undergraduate study, and its portfolio of part-time courses is among the biggest in the UK. The University of Greenwich is a British university with campuses in south-east London and north Kent. De Montfort University is a public research and teaching university situated in the city of Leicester, England, adjacent to the River Soar and the Leicester Castle Gardens. In 2008, 70% of the university’s research was deemed ‘world leading’ (40%), or ‘internationally excellent’ (30%) in the United Kingdom Research Assessment Exercise. The assessment also highlighted a particular strength in English literature, where its RAE score equalled the University of Cambridge. It comprises of seven colleges: European Business School London; Regent’s Business School London; Regent’s American College London; Webster Graduate School London; School of Psychotherapy & Counselling Psychology; London School of Film, Media and Performance; and Internexus – English Language School.It traces its roots back to the 1908 UCL’s “Ladies College”, which was able to take a Crown lease on South Villa in the Inner Circle of Regent’s Park. In 1984 the Crown lease was taken by Rockford College, Illinois, which founded Regent’s College primarily to provide a “study abroad” programme, and provide courses with a clear British focus. National American University was established in 1941 as a one-year secretarial school by Clarence Jacobson. It was called National College of Business and was located in a downtown Rapid City building. In 1960, Jacobson had the building that now houses administration for the Rapid City campus constructed at 321 Kansas City Street and moved National College to that location.

In 1962, NCB was acquired by Harold D. Buckingham and members of his family. Shortly after the Buckingham’s purchased the school, a period of growth began which led to the construction of the classroom buildings, dormitories, a library, gymnasium, and an auditorium. NCB was granted collegiate accreditation as a junior college by the Accrediting Commission of the Association of Independent Colleges and Schools in 1966. Senior college accreditation was granted in 1970.

The 1970s brought another period of growth, this time with the addition of several branch locations in the Midwest and Rocky Mountain regions. This trend toward reaching out to other communities resumed in the 90s with the addition of more campuses nationwide and continues today (See below for a complete listing of National American university campuses).In 1985, NCB earned accreditation by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and in 1997 the university name was changed to National American University.The university made its first foray into the world of online education in 1996 and currently offers many classes and several degrees completely online through its Distance Learning campus. Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) is a state university in the U.S. state of Michigan. AccreditationSaginaw Valley State University was accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association as a baccalaureate degree-granting institution in 1970. Wright State was founded in 1964 as the Dayton branch campus of both Miami University and Ohio State University. At that time it comprised only a single building, Allyn Hall (named for Stanley Allyn, then-president of National Cash Register and one of the university’s founders). Most of the land was donated by the United States Air Force, from excess acreage of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. A 1965 act of the Ohio General Assembly stipulated that the Dayton campus would become an autonomous four-year institution once it reached an enrolment of 5,000 students. Several names were considered, including Dayton State University, Southwest Ohio State University, Shawnee University, Four Rivers University (after the four nearby rivers: the Great Miami, the Mad, the Stillwater, and Wolf Creek), and Mad River University. Wright State University was eventually chosen to honour the Wright Brothers, who were residents of Dayton and invented the first successful aircraft in the city. On October 1, 1967, after enrolment passed the 5,000-student mark, Senate Bill 212 passed to actually create a new university. This led to the official charter of Wright State University. The school has a Dayton mailing address, but is located in Fairborn and is patrolled by the Fairborn police department. Prior to current president David R. Hopkins’ appointment in 2007, Wright State University had five other presidents: Brage Golding (1966–1973); Robert J. Kegerreis (1973–1985); Paige E. Mulhollan (1985–1994); Harley E. Flack (1994–1998); and Kim Goldenberg (1998–2006). In 2007, Wright State University celebrated its 40th Anniversary in connection with the Presidential Inauguration of David R. Hopkins. The Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine utilizes the main campus for pre-clinical training and seven area hospitals for clinical and residency training opportunities. In 2005, the school changed its name to the Wright State University

in recognition of the Oscar Boonshoft family, which gave Wright State’s largest philanthropic gift to the medical school. Admission to Wright State University’s School of Medicine is competitive among the many students who apply; in 2012, 3,666 students applied for admission to the school and 103 were accepted. The average undergraduate GPA is 3.62; average MCAT score 29.6. The Boonshoft School of Medicine is accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). The school’s charter class began studies in 1976 and graduated in 1980. Since then, more than 2,821 M.D.’s have graduated from the School of Medicine.
